There is no "moderate" or "radical" classification of Islam. There is only Islam..as taught in Koran & Hadith. The variations in behavior depend on how closely one chooses to follow instructions.

The difference between what Maher describes and most modern Christians is simply Christans pretending all that same awful crap is in their holy book too. In the Old Testament God commands genocide (including killing of women and children), as well as horrible inequality for women and death punishments for all sorts of ridiculous things. Christians nowaways just typically choose not to follow them closely as you sya.

Matthew Langley I'm a presbyterian and you hit the nail on the head! All the examples Maher mentioned, with which apparently Dr. Bowrn agrees, can be found in the law of Moses (and much more!). The only difference is that Dr.Brown and his dispensational theologians have constructed a system where they can just dismiss the civil punishments as "non moral and non binding" (oh and the Bible teaches male supremacy, not gender equality and that's in both testaments). They've just conveniently made whichever laws they don't like to be "for Israel only" or "ceremonial"; but don't be surprised because they do that for the new testament as well, 1st Corinthians 14 and 1 Timothy 2 teach that women are to remain silent in the churches, 1Corinthians 11 teaches that women are to cover their heads in public worship..well all that's out the window cause they don't like it. Funny how their religion resembles more post french revolution secular humanism than anything the bible teaches...compare that to Scottish reformers like John Knox or Samuel Rutherford or the second reformation puritans...oh but the dispensationalists like Dr. Brown are the "real christians".

There are Christians in the middle east just as poor and backwards as the Muslims, but they are not chopping off heads or stoning people to death. This is the difference between following Christs love and a false religion. You point out gender differences as if they were bad? Men and woman have their rolls to play in the home, this is just basic genetics, how we were wired. That is not to say there are not strong woman, or effeminate men. But by in large men are the hunters, even minded, and can put emotions aside to make even headed choices. Woman are naturally empathetic and loving, best at child raising and taking care of the home. How many books have been written about the differences between a man and woman, dear abby talks about "how to keep you man", men are from mars and woman are from Venus. In short, men and woman are indeed not equal, and thank god for that!

Jesus came with a new contract with man, hell, there wasn't any Christians until 30 years after Jesus death on the day of Pentecost when his followers received the holy spirit. The old testament is fire and wrath, the new testament is love and light. "Jesus did not come to destroy the laws of Moses, but to fulfil them." This is where People are not seeing the way things are. There is no Radical Islam, there is just Islam. Sure the vast majority of Muslims don't go out and behead People, but they support an ideology that calls for death to anyone who will not submit to Islam. Islam means submission. As you heard, Bill Maher talked about Muslim statistics, that show that most Muslims do agree with the Fundamentalist Muslims. Now the Moderate Muslims actually believe a Quran, which they can reinterpret, so they can live with it. However the most egregious passages in the Quran, cannot be reinterpreted. The bottom line is this, they either give up on Islam, and put up with the ramifications of that decision, or they sort of suffer in silence, go through the motions, being afraid to speak up

Ok, your training wheel analogy is completely backwards. First of all, entrusting your destiny and soul to some benevolent being that you can't even prove exists is riding with training wheels, because you don't want to actually consider exploring the truth of human existence. You completely disregard anyone who disagrees with you and you ignore any opinion that challenges your beliefs, which at the end of the day, are only opinions, just as my beliefs are. However, I've actually done a ton of research on the theory of divine providence and creative design and I'm sorry, but I can't take those ideas seriously when there is no evidence to back them up. On the other hand, there's a lot of evidence to support the Big Bang theory, that the earth is 4.6 billion years old, that evolution is what brought about humans. THAT version of human history is much easier to believe from a rational point of view, whereas nothing about the bible can be backed up, nor the torah, nor the Koran. Everything in them has to be taken on faith, which means ignoring logic and believing in something despite how little sense it makes. That's not reasonable and certainly isn't something you should be proud of. It's detrimental and frankly, it's logically equivalent to believing in Santa Clause or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Don't call yourself reasonable for having faith, because faith is believing in something without reason to, and that, my friend, is riding with training wheels.

Just remember that in the Bible in the old testament, which both Jews and Christians believe in I might add, God commands Joshua to raise a holy army to slaughter those in the holy land who are pagan. there is violence in every religion. it wasn't even 100 years ago that women were 2nd class citizens in the United States, and not even 200 years since it ok to behead people for any crime in Europe. Joe O'Donnell ...You forgot to mention that in the Bible it says, "Thou shalt not kill" ...It's not the same thing at all. Nowhere in the Bible are we told to kill others for God. In parts of the Bible, God commanded things like you mentioned but nowhere is it a command to keep on killing OR killing those who don't believe in God. I am not saying that atrocities did not happen by so-called Christians. The Qur'an is filled with ongoing commands to kill, slaughter, terrorize. Don't come out with this bleeding heart stuff when it comes to Muslims ...they will use it against you. qbulb No I understand what you mean, and I am a Christian, I believe in the teachings of Jesus and I speak to God at all times. I am just saying that I personally feel that it is not strictly a religion thing. Most of these extremists are from countries where there is Pre-Islamic struggles and conflicts dating back millennia. There is violence and love in each religion and all the books have versus of war, violence, and love. When people say a whole religion is evil It annoys me, because that would be like saying all of Christianity is evil, because KKK members terrorize and beat down or murder Jews and non-white Christian's. I know my opinion isn't going to change anyone and I didn't really expect it to, but I thought I might as well throw my 2 cents out there. However, in the Qur'an the whole second chapter al-baqarah (the cow) talks about the Israelites and how they are misguided as well as the Christians are (but every religion says that about the others I may add) but it also says in that chapter that you must respect the Jews and Christians because they are people of the book, and the Qur'an acknowledges the fact that Jesus was given the Gospel by Allah, and that the Moses was given the commandments and so on and so forth. Allah also says in the Qur'an that all religions have been given the truth and that there is good in all religions, but that Muslims just embrace Allah's full truth. Every religion believes they have the full truth from God though so I do not get offended by that. I feel like people overlook the peaceful parts of Islam because of all the conflict and controversy of today, and the extremist who much like those so-called-Christians use Islam as a recruiting technique to get the poor and down trodden on there side for their own selfish or psychotic causes. As for Muhammad's Hadith and his biography He was a man who simply was preaching the message that he said he got from Archangel Gabriel and the polytheist Arab tribes went on a hunt to murder him for spreading what they thought were lies and causing trouble in their society. Muhammad fled to Medina and when they came for him he defended his beliefs and life with by sword with his small army of followers. After his victory they say he went to the kabaa in Mecca and destroy all the god's and goddess shrines and scratched all the false gods out of the stone but left one god on there. Allah, who is Arab mythology was "the king of all god's" essentially. How Zeus was to the greeks. They kept the name Allah and gave it to the one and only God. Now because Saudi Arabia has always been a violent and war filled place I could possibly believe that Muhammad after being attacked by non-believers that he decided they could not be trusted and out of anger and survival reasons said we have to kill all those who oppose us to survive physically and religiously and that's why he waged these wars against the other tribes and conquered them, but that is pure humanistic survival. Now maybe that never happened, maybe over the years things were lost in translation and I feel that goes for all religions through the constant translating and adaptation from one culture's views to another and so on and so forth, but I don't hold it against the religion. I hold the people accountable.

Now is the newer improved or not? Is the newer more peaceful? Well I tell you that the newer is where Jesus appears and revolutionizes the whole Juedeo-Christian world. Now with islam there is a period of meccan verses(when islam was a minority) and medinian verses(when islam is become majority). Now does islam become more peaceful or does it become more dangerous? There are quotes supporting this and it allows for it to spread wherever. There was no such thing as an Elijah Muhammad, the same goes for the KKK, Christianity was not a white-inclusive group. These groups don't belong in discussion. I would say catholic crimes is more appropriate in inquisition and ISIS today as well as Ottoman Empire since its converted all the classic churches of asia minor into mosques. Read Jesus and about violence. Read the quran. Even in self defense, even in liberation of state, and even a political system. Jesus never came to do that. He didn't try to take over Rome or Jerusalem. He didn't come in a sword despite "his house" being occupied. You look at Prophet Muhammad he went to Medina gather troops and came back to Mecca to reclaim his kabaa and holy land, then they spread more through Caliphate and turned 1/3 of the Christian world through war and peaceful measures into islam. If you look at fundamentally CHristians follow Jesus, Muslims follow Muhammad. One is more peaceful than the other, one dies for us, while the other has people die for him. Im talking the core of the religion, not muslims, but im talking islam here. However way you want to define it, the prophet whether he used a sword or not, his followers did while he was alive and they were justified. Apostles of CHrist? It's so sad how they treat women. I once saw a little girl covered from head to toe in thick clothing. She was only about 6 years old. Her brother was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. She was wearing a hijab, a thick dress, and thick socks and boots. She asked her father if she could take just one layer of clothing off, and he rebuked her so firmly, he almost yelled. In public. What rational reason is there to treat a small child like that? For goodness' sake. What was so wrong with her wearing 4 layers of clothes instead of 5? She just wanted to be a child, but she couldn't on account of her gender. Because as a 6 year old, she had to "cover up". What's sad is that she is probably going to grow up looking down her nose at Christian women who dress normally, and she's probably going to appreciate the oppressive thing her father did to her that day.

All I can tell u is that isis don’t represent Muslims but they do represent Islam quite adequately, isis lifestyle is precisely similar to the lifestyle of their prophet. Just my personal view with this interview but Bill Maher is correct, although I think he is an atheist. But all religions are not the same or produce the same out come. I think there is an intellectual laziness on the part of the media, since most running it have no strong religious beliefs and therefore discard religions under the same umbrella and fall over themselves to try to equate them all into the same ideas. But they aren't. Examples, India subscribes to reincarnation and views all creatures as the same, the rat, the cow etc. So when the Red Cross or others help people born without limbs by prosthetics the shamans actually have attacked them believing they are hindering that person from working out the sins of their former life. India is still a third world country because of those beliefs. Therefore progress can't happen. Japanese belief in Shintoism etc. and during WWII believed the Chinese were inferior due to their beliefs of Buddhism and butchered those people. All religions produce very different world systems, economic and social and very distinct from one another. I have yet to see a system that has no idea of the here-after create anything great in history or present. I still believe the Judeo-Christian belief system got most people out of the dark ages and those who move to other areas of belief as a governmental system go deeper into collapse. Even though I disagree with bill on a lot of topics. On this topic he is correct, but fails to mention one fact. Islam shares a lot of morals, values and ethics with Judaism more so than Christianity. If you got rid of both of these religions I know 90% would be gone in a instant.
