@@joshuasmith6346 The new guard such as Rayssa and the other youngsters are really raising the bar. I mean starting out doing a crooked grind on that rail is insane. I have felt that for years the women have played it safe because they haven't needed to raise their game. The new girls have made a difference because now everyone has to step up and go out of their comfort zone a bit.
@soultruesk8rlifelong5 жыл бұрын
@@jakeyb25 I completely agree with that. I previously thought women's skating was a complete and utter joke with them just repeatedly doing the easiest possible tricks and taking the easiest way out possible, but these young one's are gonna wipe them out real quick if they keep doing that.
@jakeyb255 жыл бұрын
@@soultruesk8rlifelong It was only like that because they didn't need to do anything else. They stayed in their comfort zone because it wasn't necessary to take risks. Now 12-year-olds are starting their runs by doing a crooked grind down a long handrail and its made everyone raise their game. I mean Mariah's hardflip down the set for example, you never saw that being done before. Or the girl that did the switch frontside flip. Previously it was all boardslides, 50-50s and kickflips and whilst I did enjoy it, it was not nearly as exciting as it is now. Women's park which although was always better than street is also progressing. You should check that out the gold medal run would not look too out of place in a men's contest and that girl is 13. If she builds on what she has now who knows how high she will set the bar. That will also lead to better skating from the rest of the field

I don't know why they are so surprised about the ages of the girls, this is what progression looks like, Scheckler, Ortiz, Houston. It happened in the men's and now it's happening in the women's. In about 8 years time, 11 year old won't be able to do this because these kids will be grown and they will have a much deeper bag of tricks. It is awesome to watch!!

@@seanarmstrong7767 She is great in the park event though. She wasn't a street skater so isn't suited to commentating on a street event. The whole point of having a skater alongside a traditional broadcast person is them having first hand experience of what they are commentating on. She has never skated street, nor competed in this event. She does, however, have a great background in vert, so she knows what its like regarding trick difficulty, how to skate the course, and trick names. You would not have Bob Burnquist a person with a transition background do the men's street event, so why have her do this? On an unrelated note, they should have a women's vert contest too

she is boring to watch
@jakeyb255 жыл бұрын
In all fairness she did win X Games Shanghai only a month or so ago, and in this contest she was carrying an injury. The issue I have with her skating relates to her trick selection. She has a great style in that all her tricks look good, but its always the same selection of tricks repeated over and over again. You know she will do that fs 180, tre flip and 5-0 it gets really boring to watch. If she switches up her runs then I think she will be fine. If not then she will really start to struggle. These younger crop of skaters are really raising the bar and she has to step up or face being left behind.
@letsgodancin15 жыл бұрын
@@jakeyb25 I think her problem is that at this point of her career, she is too caught up in the instagram world, celebrity type lifestyle, public persona image etc. The newer generation of female skaters are hungry to learn newer tricks/compete and the results show that. Bufoni is operating more like a business woman/influencer than a real skateboarder. Nyjah is sort of doing the same thing but he is at least winning and by doing that staying relevant for a bit longer
@jakeyb255 жыл бұрын
@@letsgodancin1 Well Nyjah is a different ballgame completely. He works on his skating all the time learning new tricks etc you can tell he just loves progressing. He will be at the top for a long while yet because its rare that anyone else meets the standards he sets. Leticia just plays it way too safe she never ventures out her comfort zone. If you watch a video on here titled ''Leticia Bufoni 2008'' she is doing kickflip backlips on rails at the Maloof Money Cup. Since then she has gone backwards she has never flipped into a trick in years. The thing is she has a great style as I have said above her tricks look great, but it is the same tricks over and over again. She also rarely street skates unlike Nyjah who is regularly out their all her clips on insta are from skateparks. I think this maybe a wakeup call for her that she has to step it up. And I hope she will because she is capable of much more.

She is great when she commentates on the women's park event as she has that background. She wasn't a street skater and it really shows when she is describing the tricks ( repeatedly mixing up nosegrind and crooked grind). Its funny because you would not have Bob Burnquist commentating on the men's street event, so why do we have her for women's street? Would be much better to have someone like Elissa Steamer or Vanessa Torres as they are street skaters who have skated this event many times in the past, and would know what they were talking about.

@John Dunbar Watch her video parts she is so technical she does stuff no other women are doing. She doesn't really suit this type of format, so it isn't the best place to judge her skating on.
