Periods are so fraught. It's challenging for women who don't have them, but would like to (for lots of different reasons) and they can be super challenging for women who do have them (lots of pain and expensive). I would give mine up happily (I don't want to give birth and get debilitating cramps), but I know there are women who would love to be able to menstruate (for fertility and other reasons). In the end, having a period or not having a period doesn't make you more or less of a woman. Also, regardless of your gender or period status, it's always nice to have a menstrual product available for friends :)

@issafraud4196 жыл бұрын
Paige Garner Very relatable. Mine was never normal, but I used to get it about every 2-3 months at least. Then one day it just stopped and I didn’t get it for 2 whole years. I went to the doctor several times and she said there wasn’t enough evidence to conclude PCOS so I was left without a diagnosis. Though it’s a mystery to her and myself, she said my tests weren’t concerning and that I could continue living life as is if I wished to do so. Now I get it twice a year at max. I’m still young so I don’t really know what the future holds nor whether or not children can be in the picture. But you can live a fulfilling life even if you don’t have all the answers. With PCOS infertility is a struggle for all women, whether they have a period or not. Its definitely not impossible, there are so many women with PCOS and children but its definitely a lot more difficult to concieve naturally. A lot of women find it easier to concieve the older they get, I read that its something to do with a hormone but women with PCOS have more of, but overtime it decreases naturally and as we get older it drops down to a more ‘normal’ level so is easier to concieve, im not a pro so might have it wrong but i hope this helps x

I guess as a woman who doesn't want children not having my period wouldn't be an issue. But I understand that when that right is taken away from you it can be more difficult. I’m 14 and lost my period over a year ago after having it fully for the whole year before that, over a few months it slowly faded out for no reason. I’ve gotten numerous blood tests and even an ultrasound, and everything even my hormones (that would usually indicate a problem in this situation) are normal and the doctors are stumped. Right now I’m awaiting the results for one of the most precise blood tests yet, and if everything comes back okay again, then still no one knows what’s going on. This has left me scared and confused for so long, I just wish I was ‘normal’ and that women didn’t take the blessing of ovulation for granted, let alone loathe it. I guess in a sense I’m “lucky”not to have the regular inconvenience of a period, but believe me I’ve experienced the lack, the gain, and the loss. The emotional toll of the current state is frankly the most horrible.

I am a woman with PCOS and because of that I would have a natural period maybe once or twice a year. I don't ovulate. Due to the symptoms of PCOS I now have the Nexplanon implant in my left arm which has completely stopped my period. I will suffer from infertility and a long list of other health issues for the rest of my life. When I was diagnosed I lost my hair, I had facial hair, and I didn't feel like I was a woman anymore. It was a really hard time from me. It's been 3 years since I was diagnosed, and I have since reclaimed my femininity. I may not be able to have children, I may have weird facial hair, I may not be a traditional woman, BUT I AM STILL A WOMAN. Just because you lose the ability to have a baby, lose your reproductive organs, or weren't born female does not make you less of a woman. I think it just makes you a stronger one.

Finally a video that isn't like omg awkward period stories. I have PoF and endometriosis, so it's very rare for me to have a normal period. The biggest thing was being told by men and women that I'm broken because I can't have children. I remember being 14 and my doctor telling me I'd never have kids unless I did invetro (which I'll never be able to afford) and just breaking down. Then when my friends all started having kids them looking at me like there was something wrong with me or talking about kids and babies in whispered tones because hey she can't have kids, or even better leaving their kids with me because since I can't have kids I totally don't mind babysitting. It's disgusting that because I'm a woman I'm not looked at as whole because I can't have children. It's not like I don't want kids, I love kids, but it doesn't make me any less of a woman, any less fierce or sexy or strong, I am who I am and proud of it

Beautiful, healthy, women. I too struggle with the loss of my period, I have been irregular ever since I got my first period at the age of 18. My doctor told me it was normal "it'll work itself out". But of course it didn't, it stopped all together after 3 times of having it in in the first year of actually finally getting my period. At first I thought "wow, I'm lucky. I don't have to go out and buy products every month" but after a while I started to think about my femininity, because I did not feel like a women, rather still a girl. I'm now 25 and wanting children. I started trying a year ago on my own, and then after a few months I went to my doctor who ran blood tests and ultrasounds which all came back normal and healthy. He referred me to a gynaecologists for further testing and treatment, but that's not for a couple more months. I have tried dieting, exercising & taking prenatal vitamins. I've also bought a lot of ovulation tests to test myself everyday and it is always negative. Any women with the same problem or suggestions?

Sarouboo its an IUD, form of contraception that stops your menstrual cycles although you can still get the symptoms (cramps,moodiness,etc) and some spotting from time to time. The IUD is inserted into the uterus which not gonna lie is very painful, but worth it in my opinion.

You should fosho see a doc to understand your body but I’m just saying (because no one ever told me that), that sometimes your body just works differently than other women’s. I have seen MANY specialists and they all told me the same thing: having a period every few months is simply how my body has always worked. Much love!! ❤️❤️

To the fellow premature ovarian failure sufferer: I was also diagnosed at 14 and your message made me tearful. You look absolutely gorgeous and I truly wish all the best to you! So as to the two other ladies as well, of course! :) ...and to all of those who don't really understand, periods is not only about blood and children, but a healthy hormonal balance, bone health, heart, even lifetime expectancy. The human body is a very complex and sophisticated machine and even the tiniest inbalance causes all sort of issues. Think diabetes, we also miss one of the few most important hormones.

As a woman with POF (albeit secondary POF, I lost my periods in my 30s), I am deeply upset at this video. Premature menopause is devastating, and it's a lot more than "feeling less than a woman." A tran woman has her own issue, but there is no way on earth she can understand how devastating POF is. I still felt like a woman when I lost my periods, but I FELT OLD! I lost my ability to have children, something I still hoped for - and since trans woman couldn't have them the same way anyway, she cannot get how devastating it is. I had terrible hot flashes - it's a fact that is described in medical literature that menopausal symptoms are far stronger in younger women than in those who go into menopause at normal time, although HRT helped a lot with it. But there are other serious health risks which comes with POF - do you even have a clue of those? Most of women diagnosed with POF already have osteopenia, and even with HRT, our risk of osteoporosis is very high. Our risk of heart disease is higher as well. Then there are cosmetic things like getting gray hair sooner, skin's losing its suppleness (I am lucky though, HRT helped me with it), and a score of other health risks. There are studies that show that women with POF die sooner!

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago (cervical cancer, precancerous uterine cells and endometriosis) and I've never felt like I am less of a woman. Anytime someone makes a comment about the fact that they have a period and I don't I flip it on them and say "yeah that really sucks for you" I don't miss the bleeding or the symptoms. I was briefly sad about not being about to have anymore children but I was consoled by the fact that my 2 sons get to keep their mom because I chose the hysterectomy.

As a teenager without a period I’ve cried countless nights not understanding why I can’t be like all my friends and just have a period. I’ve always wanted kids and when all my doctors said it is possible for me to be pregnant but it will be a really complicated process I was so happy. All I hear is women complaining about cramps and how heavy there flow is but I don’t think anyone thinks about how a women without a period feels when they are complaining. So if anyone reads this just remember that there are a lot of women out there who are infertile and/or don’t have a period. So be mindful of what your saying.

The comments I'm seeing from women who are calling other women "lucky" because they don't get their periods really need to sit back and re-evaluate why we're not that lucky. I have PCOS and I haven't had a natural period in 2 years. I don't want kids, but the side effects of my condition is what makes me personally feel less of a woman. I struggle to loose weight, I have to be careful of everything I eat, my face constantly breaks out. And the worst thing? The god damn hair growth! I have thick hair all over my body, from my toes to my face. I have spent thousands on laser hair removal and have to go back every 1-2 months to top up. It's not the not having periods that make me feel less of a woman, it's the fact that I can't be feminine. It's the fact that I can grow facial hair better than some men. It's the fact that the only way I can control this is to have it blasted off my body at huge expenses. Please don't call us lucky. For some women it's about not being able to have kids, for others it's about the negative side effects our conditions carry alongside not being able to have kids.
@jewelmarkess6 жыл бұрын
I had premature ovarian failure in my 30s. It was devastating. I still wanted to have kids... I got facial hair (although laser took care of it for years, now it seems to come back, but I am gray now, so laser will not help), keeping weight off became more difficult, more fat gets deposited in the belly, yes. I was on HRT until 52, so it helped. Then, there are other health risks like osteoporosis, heart disease. Back then, when I was diagnosed, I cannot say I felt less than a woman, but I can say that I felt like I was old, like I aged before my time even though I still looked pretty (with the help of HRT).

I’m actually glad that a video like this was put out. My period came when I was 9 yrs old and since then its been super irregular. But i havent had a full cycle since I was about 11 or 12. Now I do not get my period at all. I was recently put on some pills that gives my system sort of a push to go through the cycle. But if it wasnt for those pills, I wouldn’t be having my period at all. No one really knows whats the reason, I had a doctor tell me it can be because of my weight but it makes no sense because there are women bigger than me who actually go through normal cycles. My mom definitely has been stressing the pills on me & I feel like she’s saying that only really because in the future, i know i will want to have a child and she doesn’t say it but she really wants that for me. I know my story is not as serious as these women but I do understand where they are all coming from. I also don’t look at having my period as such a big deal like what was said at the end... but I know that in the long run, I should be grateful that all I have go to is take pills.. these women are amazing and I’m happy they spoke on this topic

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2015, and had it confirmed in 2017 when I had a transvaginal ultrasound and they pointed out the cysts on my ovaries. I also have PMDD. My periods fluctuate (the longest I've been on my period was 9 months-- I didn't stop bleeding once during that time-- but I can also go months and months without experiencing a period at all), but I'd honestly rather not have any at all. Periods have caused me nothing but severe pain, crippling anxiety, and a slew of other physical, mental, and emotional symptoms. Do I have moments where I wish I were more... womanly? Sure. I see all these gorgeous, feminine women who don't have chronic illness or anxiety linked to something that's supposed to bring life into the world, but I know that's not where my value lies. There are so many other parts of me that the world needs, and anyone reading this who is feeling this way, it's the same for you.

I discovered about one year ago that I was deficient in Vitamin D, so I started taking supplements or going outside more often. Without thinking much about it, I noticed my period was coming more often but I didn't realize until about 6 months later that it was probably because I no longer had a deficiency. I looked up vitamin D and read that it can assist in regulating your menstruation cycle. Anyways, that;s just my experience

The woman who had the hysterectomy gave out wrong info, not sure if she actually believes it or just misspoke, but if you don't have a uterus you don't have any blood. It's not like she is still bleeding and it just doesn't come out. The blood comes from your uterus. So by having your ovaries you still ovulate, but you don't have any blood. I have had a hysterectomy too although mine was for severe pain and blood loss during my period to the point I was passing out every month. (My problems were caused because of late miscarriages and placenta issues in my last pregnancy. I lived for 8 years with it, and the last 2 years of that with passing out every month) I have had moments of sadness because I can't have kids anymore, even though I have 5 living children (2 losses) and knew I didn't want anymore, at 35 knowing that you can't messed with my head and was an adjustment. Now a year later, it us just normal for me. I can sympathize with others who still have their periods, but I'm so glad that I don't have to go through what I did every month anymore.

I hate having to explain why I haven't had my period this year, why I don't have a period, why when I do have my period it lasts for 1 month, that yes I can still have children but the chances are super slim and yes there is a change that I may pass it on to my children (because that's how I got it). It's just this silent thing that I have to deal with and meeting someone who also don't get their periods is like such an empowering thing, because we truly understand eachother. I didn’t have periods naturally from 17-21 and my only “concern” beyond the health issues of not having periods at least 4 times a year and why it was happening was when I did later become sexually active during that period was not knowing easily if I was not “pregnant.” I ended up finding out I had a pituitary gland tumor that produced the hormone prolactin. I take meds for it now and am tapering off of them all together at 25 now. I also had to get on birth control and spironolactone for hormonal acne. If I go off the BC I would have “normal” periods (I tested this for a few months once) and my tumor shrank over time. Still, I never felt less of a woman. Being a woman is a feeling and sense of self. Connections to other women. Shared experiences that go far beyond just periods or motherhood or pregnancy. I never stopped thinking of myself as anything but 100% a woman.
