@@TheKarlslok As a side note, the divorce rates in Japan are drastically lower than here (around 2%). This is because the community shuns the practice entirely, and the social price is very steep. Here in the west people are almost always excused for their casual disregard for the bonds of marriage to be happy. This is the root of the problem. As Pearl mentioned, she doesn't meet any Christian women who are okay with obeying their husbands as it instructs them to do in the bible. However, in Japan, arranged marriages are the norm, so most couples are already beginning with an obedience mindset in place.

The late comedian David Brenner used to do a bit in his act (in the mid 1970s) about marriage where he said that 50% of marriages ended in divorce and that another 25% would end in divorce but the couples stayed together for other reasons (the kids, religion, etc.). That means 3 out of 4 marriages don't work yet people are lining up to get married. They're bad odds! You're all odds players! The court system still following a century ago or 60-70 years ago mindset when maybe women were not getting their part from life what it should have been. Today's women are totally different, after feminism movements, they know how to play with system. The court system is still following decades ago jurisdiction laws, the court system needs to be updated. Sad testimony of these Narcissistic times. I'm one of six siblings who grew up with single mom and low income. All but one has gotten divorced and has yet been married for over 20 years since, to her second husband. I'm going on 34 years, older sister 50 years, older brother 34 years, younger brother 40 years, other brother passed away but was married over 25 years. Maybe growing up with gratitude and making the best of situations was blessing.

What is interesting is that the divorce laws of the past accused of suppressing women was seen by men and women as being "empowering" women to protect their marriages. The base assumption being that they would know if it were worth saving. The punitive cost of divorce was seen as encouraging more proper behavior. That being stated the evolution of sex based laws has swung in directions that make the antiquated divorce system a bludgeoning tool, more often used by women than men, but men do take advantage of loopholes and offensive (actions not feelings). Better attitudes on marriage (now marred by feminism) is a beginning. But, the truth of what Pearl is saying here cannot be denied.
