I thought Organic produce still has pesticides on them. They're just different. Anybody know?
@sandyberger-r9j3 күн бұрын
In Europe, if farmers grow organic food, they’re not allowed to spray them with pesticides. Sometimes organic food can be a bit contaminated because the farmer who owns the next field uses pesticides and the wind carries a bit to the organic field, but it’s still way less than ordinary vegetables and fruit. In my country, the number of people who eat organic food has increased over the last decade and so have the offers in the supermarkets. That means the price of organic food has dropped and it’s affordable now.

a LOT of this was half the truth swerved into crunchy woowoo propaganda. for example, the enzymes in cows milk are not the same enzymes that help your body digest it. they're there to protect this literal body fluid against pathogens, which could also harm the consumer of the milk (calf or human). no other creature drinks milk into adulthood, nor the milk of a different animal, regularly. you don't need it. if you want it, yogurt is not a bad way to have it because of the probiotics. look for the ones with live culture somewhere in the labeling. if this is a treat with benefits, we might as well get full fat, yogurt with it removed usually has more sugar and flavors added to it to compensate (and once you try full fat you probably won't want 0% ever again tbh). it's a very good source of protein if you need extra too, but not a lot of Americans do. and I'm not even watching further because that breakdown of misinfo was already exhausting. raw milk might have a better nutrition profile but we started doing this for a reason, kinda like vaccines-- you're underestimating the risk of something you haven't experienced in your lifetime. I just subscribed due to other reputable guests you've had, and this kind of pseudoscience out of the gate isn't tickling my fancy to stay long.
@negy25705 күн бұрын
"you're underestimating the risk of something you haven't experienced in your lifetime" This. Long time ago milk was raw because there was no milk industry, but I've been told over and over by elders of my family that people had very small milk in general and it was mainly for kids and that nobody would ever have it without boiling it! This was so ingrained that many elders insisted in boiling milk even when it became pasteurized 😄 Same with viruses and infections. They were less educated and they knew more because they went through things with their own skin. They lost kids to diphteria, thyfoid, smallpox and all sorts of infection, coronavirus included (Spanish flu). Now I hear people say that getting a virus strengthen your body 🤦

As a kid growing up on a dairy farm in rural Mi during the ‘50’s Our whole family used raw milk from our cows until my dad retired. Butter was made from that same milk & home made ice cream, no one ever got sick from it in all those years. We also picked strawberries from the garden & cherries off the trees & ate them without even washing them without getting sick. BUT, we grew all the feed for the cows our selves. We grew the oats, wheat, & corn for the “ chop” they were fed, they grazed in a beautiful meadow all day. No foods were GMO then, no pesticides were used, the grain was not sprayed with “round up”prior to harvest, herbicide effect was done by migrant workers hoeing the rows from morning til night. Fruits & vegetables were all homegrown, home canned or frozen. All baked goods were all homemade, with homemade. Butter & milk from the farm & our home grown eggs. My dad butchered his hogs & dad smoked the bacon & ham himself. To think I used to get mad that we could never get store bought like the other kids.

We must talk about estrogen and menopausal women. After a lumpectomy, and turning down radiation, my doctor wants to put me on estrogen blockers. And is blocking estrogen a solution?

Coooool, but the take on alcohol is just absurd :D the kids won't be nicer to you if you just drank a glass of wine xD makes me think that the guest probably just can't handle life without her drinking habit. If it comes to health, drinking is bad for you, period. If you drink so little that you actually stay within the acceptable range, you don't get "relaxing" effects of it. And if it's the social acceptibility you're worried about, not eating dessert during family dinner because sugar kills you is probably just as bad.

Hi Lisa, First of all I would like to thank you for your bravery and come out so vocal and strong in every single podcast. I love your content and guests. I have learned so much that I probably wouldn't have done it otherwise. I was listening to this podcast and while the dietary habits and reading labels are so important, I feel Dr Mindy missed a few things of the mix. She talks about the importance of nutrition. Absolutely but she missed the point that menopause it is a deficiency of estrogen. We can eat all the right things which will make us feel better and healthier but it doesn't substitute the lack of estrogen and the withdrawal symptoms. Also, they always are based on the American model. Not all your audience lives in America. Some links or shops do not ship to Europe. And my last point is to think that all women do work doing zoom calls. There is a large amount of women that do not sit by a computer and yet they will still go through menopause as nature intended. Let's be real. And give some real tips for those women that they stand on their feet all day and that diet alone will not help their symptoms. Let start by educating ourselves and our children at school. And also show us healthy alternatives. I loved the example of Jack's chips but I live in England. I will have to source alternative. On the positive side let's not fat the pockets of the people are killing as slowly and support the ones that are healthier. Thank you so much for listening and for the content you create. I have seen your drawings. You are an amazing talented artist too.

Sure, a lot of messing with human food could be avoided if they were less greedy, but we were never 8 billions on the planet to feed. Especially in urban areas it would be very difficult to provide food without conservation and transportation. It's done mostly for hygienic reasons and long term conservation. If you can, buy locally at reputed farmers. Just forget the "once was better" sort of idillyc vision of the past with bouncyful of all sorts of great, rich, organic and fresh food that they are pushing on us now. I eat the same exact thing every day - in the morning a half a cup of coffee with whipped cream sweetened with stevia. At 11am I have a big bowl of greens with two walnuts crumbled in, a few fake chicken strips and either a regular baked potato or a baked Japanese sweet potato. My dressing is plain olive oil. (No vinegar, no salt, no butter). Later in the afternoon I have a smoothie made from frozen bananas, frozen blueberries, protein powder and supplements. Later at night I have two canna chocolates to help me sleep, sweetened with stevia. This daily diet keeps me filled up and I lost forty pounds and have kept it off. Never heard anyone who is even more of a geek regarding nutrition than myself but I have learned new things from Mindy on this interview today..I also like the interviewers style, so subscribed. I agree with more or less everything I heard her say. I think regarding gluten it is better avoided..full stop. However, if you have no chronic diseases and eat more or less an anti inflammatory diet (maybe paleo keto mix depending on time of the month ) then an occasional organic sourdough wheat bread would be ok..homemade or from a proper bakery..not supermarket. The sourdough part is key as this type of bread can reduce the gluten down to very low. Also, an ancient grain would be better if possible, such as einkorn. I too have an occasional glass or two of organic, sulphite free red wine still...and really enjoy it! Great stuff..will seek out both Mindy and Lisa more now!

While Dr. Mindy Pelz advocates extreme fasting and dietary protocols as health solutions, her methods lack robust scientific validation, rely heavily on anecdotal evidence, and promote unsustainable practices like prolonged fasting and restrictive eating, which experts warn risk nutrient deficiencies, metabolic disruption, and disordered eating. Critics highlight contradictions in her guidance (e.g., alternating fasting with high-calorie days) and note her monetized programs prioritize dogma over individualized care, while her dismissal of conventional medicine and unproven claims (e.g., fasting reducing cancer risk) raise ethical concerns about misinformation. Though critiques of her appearance are subjective, they underscore broader issues with prioritizing restrictive regimens over holistic wellness and evidence-based health practices.
