Having come to Australia from the UK as a young child and growing up in Ormiston and having gone back to the UK as an adult. I can tell you, I am glad of the childhood I had in Australia, I couldn't imagine growing up anywhere else! 😊

When my parents emigrated to Australia from England, I was a 12 year old boy. At my new school I was good with maths, English, science and geography however I was a long way behind in history, I knew all about English history but when it came to Australian history I was way behind, I didn't know any of the explorer names or achievements, or the role of the convicts etc. So it took a long time for me to catch up in history. It was easy to make new friends and I learnt how to ride a surfboard as we lived near the coast and I became a surf lifesaver getting my bronze medal in lifesaving.

@@TheGreatEmigrate No, I would like to go back and visit my aunts and uncles. I'll wait a bit first, probably when I pay off my mortgage. My Mum and Dad have both gone back a couple of times.

Australia is a big place and has a number of different climatic zones. Darwin is pretty different to Hobart.

Don't know how you cope with the weather up there, at least in Melbourne we have seasons. I hope your girls appreciate the opportunities out here. Whilst I love the UK to visit, I couldn't live there xxx

Get a mosquito band for your wrist. I use them when I go to a BBQ in the evening/ late afternoon. Get them at BCF or chemist. They are a coloured rubber wrist bracelet and infused with mozzie repellent.

Kids always make friends. Kids adapt very easily and handle change much easier than adults. Adults underestimate kids.
