It looks like sometimes you were going counter clockwise, may just be the seeded up looking weird but FYI going backwards doesn't work well, the whole thing is designed to go one direction.

Are you kidding me? Just wait 'til you have to grow or kill and clean everything you eat, make your own bread, wash you clothes by hand, then hang them to dry, go to bed with the chickens and get up with them when you have NO electricity for lights, after a COLD shower, because the water heater is down and only shower maybe once a month, if you are lucky, because you have to catch your own rain water because there is no more running water, so you have to ration the water...I can go on and on...don't think grinding the grains will seem that appealing in a grid down...

You don't have an efficient setup. You need to be standing behind the grinder... you're standing somewhat to the side. You need to fasten the grinder near a corner of a table or countertop, thereby making it possible to stand directly behind it.

I don't plan on needing that much pre-ground flour ever. Looks a lot easier than my great little coffee grinder. I only grind what I'm using because oxidation wrecks freshness and vitality. But that you may need 5.5 pounds for your recipe today, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I've made 100s of loaves with my Wondermill Junior and I gotta say you nailed it with the thumbnail pic. You should mount the mill at the end of the counter so you can also stand "beside" it to crank with your opposite arm half of the time (almost pressing the front of your body against the counter). Maintain good posture, keep neck and back vertical! To do this you will probably need to adapt to doing squats (and/or lunges) as you mill, but your neck and torso will be much happier. I also swap in the drill bit in the past couple weeks, but holding the drill is also an exercise in itself... it is a concrete drill after all. Think: same squats but pushing forward with steady pressure rather than pulling the crank. Similar torso workout. I still manually crank for awhile before swapping in the drill for larger batches so I know it is the right tightness and "speed" that I want.

Thank you very much for this demonstration, sir. So far I’ve watched two demonstrations, they both were going to be this much time for about the same amount of wheat flour. I’m a bit away by this, as in my mind It would’ve been a simple matter of engineering it with an extra gear or to really move the milling process along.

Well, that depends on the size of your family and how much flour you use. A large family could easily use up five pounds of flour in no time. If you are single and living alone, yeah, you're not going to use much flour.

I enjoyed the video. I even got a bit excited when I figured a hand powered mill would be a lot less expensive than an electric one. That excitement didn't last long. The electric isn't that much more so that is probably the one I'll buy. Also, I'll just grind what I need each time I make bread. Thanks again.

@GoodmanMIke59
@GoodmanMIke59 6 жыл бұрын
Apparently not ... (1) the bit is special and a rip off ... non-standard, (2) the torque required means a low RPM drill (which my father bequeathed but ... rare), and (3) the speeds needed by drill will wear out the stones. (can't find the video ... but use a motor and reduction)

@@ginacrane6973 There is a flywheel option that you can attach an electric motor to, just have to keep it below 300 RPM. I'm thinking of getting one of these and using it with a motor and only using the hand crank if the power goes out and I have a hankering for some bread.
