That weapon was confirmed in the film to be a baby. The baby of Zeus and Hera themselves. Ares himself basically stated that with his immense power at that point, only a full god could take him on. A demigod would lose. This is not Ares fuelling off a fight between his daddy and uncle and grandad. This is Ares fuelling off WW1.

Diana is the ADOPTED daughter of Hippolyta. And we can't forget that Ares himself confirmed this fact: Only a god can kill another god. He didn't say "demigod" - and now he's toast, courtesy of lightning bolts from a goddess - a power derived from her daddy, Zeus. So no, Diana is a full-on goddess.

Wizard Shazam himself is a demigod too. Making him weak here was goofy. Black Adam is a godling but only demi because he can revert to human like Billy, Egyptian gods that power him can still be used, Darkseid and the new gods, Norse and Chinese are still available as well....there are plenty of the godlings around. The problem is that DC doesn't have tight control over their properties like Marvel does because Black Adam or JSA should have been contractually obligated to show up in this film as a cameo. Wonder Woman recently being retconned as daughter of Zeus throws everything off.

@julesherring70 - Technically, given that DC retconned Wonder Woman many times in the comic books (at least 5 iterations), it is canon in ONE of those iterations that she IS a daughter of Zeus. Don't forget that the Greek goddesses were each created in strange and very different ways. The idea that Zeus animated Diana of Themiscira from a clay statue is no worse than Athena springing forth from Zeus's brow.

The problem with this scene is, as soon as she pops up, EVERYONE in the scene at Billy’ s funeral is excited and in awe/happy…and that’s ridiculous.
