Korsia Cancel culture is not as strong here cause when Korea say they cancel some one, they mean it. Unlike in America, someone is only canceled for a short time before everyone just forgets. Opinion: Starship should've put him on hiatus for the rest of the comeback and settled things quietly whether it be paying off or taking legal action etc while it blows over, which it wouldve. That would've been win-win because the group and fans keep their member and the agency is showing they're competent by taking action to solve matters(either by making the member reflect/change if he's done wrong or taking legal action against offending parties). Having him leave only half solves things and created a big headache for the agency with the members losing morale and the majority of fans wanting him back.

mobebe 514 Yes, that’s true. I meant my opinion was, instead of ending his contract, it would have been better for Starship to have Wonho go on a hiatus/break. Other agencies have done that with artists they’re contracted with for various reasons, and while the artists aren’t active, they still earn money for their agency in other ways(album sales etc etc).

i really do believe now that everything's cleared up that wonho left of his own volition & that starship tried their best to keep him in. wonho signed with highline, a subsidiary of starship, which wouldn't happen if starship really did do him dirty. starship also promised fans when he left that they would do everything in their power to set up a good future for his career & will continue to battle the claims. they held up to these promises. wonho is just a very selfless person & wanted to save his fans + members from unnecessary stress & hate so he decided to leave, but starship really did fight till the very end for him :')

soulsocietyprincess I hope that’s the case:) The truth is we never know what happened behind closed doors, and there’s at least two sides to every story. I agree that Wonho is very selfless and have no doubt he thought the best way to solve things was to leave and theoretically spare Monsta X and Monbebe grief(although I am pretty sure the rest of Monsta X disagreed). As for Starship’s reaction.... that’s a little more murky. They weren’t actually very involved in clearing his name at all, and it’s possible that rather than encouraging him to stay with Monsta X they didn’t give him that option but pushed him to sign with Highline(their subsidiary thus still making them money). Also, isn’t it fishy that Monsta X never mention him? He was cleared of everything and even signed with Highline, so why can’t they talk about him? I’m not saying for sure thats what happened, or Starship has told Monsta X they can’t talk about him by name or anything...but it’s a bit odd. In general these agencies do have some good people working for them of course, but at the end of the day it’s a business, and they often make decisions based on money and keeping the company afloat. The artists are technically an investment and while the sensible thing to do would be to protect their investment, sometimes they abandon them(either a member of a group or the entire group) if the money they’ll make from investing in the artist is threatened or they end up costing the company too much. Not trying to be a downer though! Like I said there are also good people in the industry that treat each other like humans and we really can’t say for sure how things went down since we weren’t there. Thankful to have him back in action and would be super stoked if they did a collab!!

@@perplexity90 it is of course true that we'll never truly know what happened and entertainment companies will do what's best for them financially. However, I believe Starship was actually very involved in clearing his name. That's really smth I'd have to disagree with; during the scandal, I thought they weren't doing anything to help Wonho but in hindsight I see that they were. They hired a team of lawyers for him to settle the money scandal + set his career up with Highline, giving him *the same choreographers + producers as he had previously worked with during MX era* . He 100% would not have been able to comeback, much less with an arsenal of songs this quickly (he didn't just cb with a single. the boy dropped an entire EP's worth of songs in just a few months) if that weren't the case. We see it all the time with other idols when they leave their companies; it takes A LONG time for them to A) sign with a company B) get all the internal details figured out C) comeback. They also responded to the Shownu + Wonho accusations very quickly to nip it in the bud instead of letting it fester (unlike other companies AHEM YG & JYP ahem). Additionally while Wonho was still in Starship, they would often let him write/co-produce songs (basically giving him some artistic freedom which a lot of companies forbid their idols from even remotely doing). The only thing I didn't like about how Starship handled things was making the rest of the members keep going on with schedules as if nothing's happened. Now I'm no dummie; they were in the middle of a cb when wonho left & clearly are contractually/legally binded to their scheduled obligations (aka if they didn't make it to these scheduled events, they'd prob have to pay a lotta $$ to get out) so in that regard, it is understandable. But they really did work the members to the bone, especially when they had their regular schedules AND ON TOP OF THAT had to re-choreograph & re-record all of their songs to fit without wonho. You could visibly see that the members were exhausted, which was unfortunate to say the least. But again, they had prior work obligations that were already planned for..possibly even months beforehand. And I mean the whole reason for Wonho leaving was so the group could continue with their cb promotions; I'm sure he wouldn't have felt good if the rest of MX were put on hiatus as well. They also most likely were told to not speak about him to avoid drama, especially when Wonho was still yet to be cleared of his drug charges. If the members were to continue talking about Wonho on screen, I'm 100% sure Monbebes would use that as fuel to blast Starship over why Wonho can't just rejoin the group when the members keep talking about him. It's basic PR; tbh if I were a company head, I'd also tell them to hold off on speaking about him publicly for a while too :/ I highly doubt they'd collab together, but I really hope we get to see at least some pics of them hanging out together again >.

Hello, just my 2 cents in response to a few comments Danny made. I understand how the Korean public can be angry about the fact that Wonho didn't return the money he allegedly owes. It is a sensitive issue. However, the fact that Starship's lawyer tried to reach out to them to suss out the situation means they were trying to settle the matter. Maybe they were willing to pay the amount owed, but obviously you wouldn't just do that without confirming the truth first and getting evidence right? It's expected for them to do that. And if I was JDE and only wanted my money back, then I would collect my damn receipts, show them to Starship and get paid. But judging by JDE's evasive text responses and the fact that they made this whole issue public makes me think that their intention was not to get their money back, but to purposely use Wonho's mistake against him to tarnish his reputation. Plus, photos are out that JDH and HSH were conspiring with Dispatch, waiting to release all this info right before their comeback when all the attention is on the group. Everyone involved had malicious intent from the start, and that, I believe, is the real crime. We all know how idols work themselves to the bone and even then success is not guaranteed. In just one day these people managed to ruin the career of someone who has worked tirelessly for it for the past 10 years, and not to mention also jeopardising the careers of the other 6 members of MX, and for what? Money? Attention? An incessant need to destroy people's lives for sick satisfaction? People should not be throwing stones at Wonho for his past mistakes, many of which he has tried to rectify ever since becoming a trainee. They should be reprimanding the accusers for purposely dragging him and MX through the mud for their own personal gain. Whatever happens, I hope that Wonho and the rest of Monsta X can get through this, rise from the ashes like a phoenix and come back stronger than ever. There are still many people who support them and I hope they realise that the love they receive will always outweigh the hate.

I personally did not know who Monsta X was until I heard their song recently; however, it is truly sad that this girl says he owes her money, especially that amount, and it is automatically taken as the truth. I enjoy this channel and think Danny and David are so good but I don't understand Danny's such obvious bias towards this girls allegations against Wonho. Is it the fact that he is a member of an idol group and should therefore be rich? Like David said we do not know the whole story, including any previous arrangements (if any), between both parties. If he has already tried to reach out and settle the issue and she still refuses then she is also in the wrong. Blackmail is never okay, no matter the situation. It is morally and ethically wrong so I don't understand why Danny thinks she should be able to ask for more than what was owed, and again we do not know the whole story, what agreement did they have? How much money does he actually have? How do we know what is happening behind the scenes and his financial situation? "Wonho is probably rich" is not enough to vilify him.

I think some people are *FORGETTING* and still don't understand, these are all accusations and not confirmed. The only "evidence" they have are just text messages, that do not even confirm he owes anyone money btw or confirmed that those messages are actually real. It just sounds like you guys are assuming its true and saying he owes them money, but there was no SOLID evidence. Its okay to have a option but you cant just say "he owes them money" or "just pay back 2x more than what you owe", why would I pay someone back if I do not owe them anything?? I am not saying he didn't do it, personally based on character I do not believe it, but the only thing that will sway my option is SOLID evidence. I agree that should be the case ideally. but in reality, a celebrity, it comes with the job especially Kpop group members, highly depends on their high interaction with fans through various means, and forming a bond/friendship with them through the utilisation of vapp, video streaming, making their own reality show, fan meetings, personalised photo cards on albums, etc. It's all about making the fans feel noticed and close to the artist. That's what differentiate them from other kind of celebs, for example western celebs. Therefore, when you are literally sharing so much of your life with your fans, and constantly interacting/communicating with them, and you suddenly gone mia, it is not surprising the fans wants to know just a little bit more. I'm sure the fans will be understanding etc, but he is a celebrity, not a REGULAR civilian with regular jobs and no fame. so at least giving a less vague explanation comes with the job. The worst thing about being a fan of Korean idols/celebs is that just one mistake anywhere in their past could utterly destroy their career and you might never even see them again. Meanwhile, in America, we forgive nearly anything as long as the person shows some effort towards change and seeking redemption. The way this all came makes it quite clear it's a hit job. HSH is basically a chaebol nightmare out of a KDrama, and I sincerely pray someone gets rid of her before she goes on to destroy more careers. Wonho is my MX bias, and this whole thing has been hearbreaking. He was a kid. His family was bankrupt. He's made so much effort over the years to become a well-adjusted, hard-working adult, but Starship and the Korean media is holding him responsible for things he did as a literal child. First of all most idols don't get paid at all until they clear their debt. Monsta X finally cleared their debt and got their first paychecks in Feb/Mar 2018.. Again who knows how much those are and how frequently they get since money goes to the company first. Remember Wonho came from a poor debt ridden family. So that narrows window down to about a year and a half ago at the most to where he could start paying anything. Again most people I know don't like giving away large chunks of money when they first get it. Again him growing up poor might encourage the mentality to splurge more on himself than to pay debts. Also assuming he actually owes her anything. Also Wonho decides to give money to make sure his mom has a nice place to live . So there could be more the story than what meets the eye. Also the dispatch report did show he never went to juvenile detention and was appointed a guardian. As for the drugs, there's no way to prove those events even occured.

In my opinion, paying back in necessary because someone trusted you enough to give money free of charges so you have to reward that trust, but on the other hand when you have a debt from a company for trainee that would be the first I would pay back as well as get a decent life before slowing paying back. Yeah. Sighhh looking from the outside in, there is so much that we don't know. And can only resort to speculation. Even if there might be some thread of truth behind all her claims though I doubt all of them are 100% true. Why do all this? What does she gain from all of it? Wonho's lawyer asked her for details to pay whatever she wanted, but then JDE and HSH started throwing out more accusations about his past (that we knew at debut) that have nothing to do with money, and even started to go after other members. This past week have been so shocking, especially with Woojin and Wonho (Monsta X is one of my ult groups). I am also a part of the whole "wonho come back" campagin on twitter because I am still holding on that last bit of hope that he will still be in MX (even though that's my emotional side talking). This whole situation was very messy and SS shoud have let him take a hiatus while all of these things are all settled and such. I know the situation looks grim, especially after hearing Edward's thoughts and how much public image is valued in SK. I'm just at a loss, I feel so badly for Wonho and the rest of the members of Monsta X.

The thing that is fishy about the money thing is just that there doesnt seem to be any evidence. Transactions that involve such huge amounts of money are usually documented somewhere, so if it's true, where is the proof? Also the proof for them having been living together, there must be a contract that proves this. So unless there's SOLID evidence I don't really believe her. And if it does turn out to be true I think it could've been dealt with differently. Like, pay back the money, don't let him participate temporarily and then later when everything has claimed down, let him be part of the promotions again. Starship just acted too hastily imo.

The whole thing about starship and Monsta x is really weird. I think the company is under more pressure than I first thought. We still don't know what the police investigation revealed about the produce 101 election system. There are at least elements that are confirmed. Starship is one of the companies that are suspects to have paid to have their trainees enter the final group. I don't know of what else starship is afraid of, but having Wonho leave, even though they invested so much into also their American promotions, is really weird.
