Spot on with your comment on cheap Chinese stoves. They are lightweight. Also worth noting that stainless steel flexi liners have an arrow stamped on them to show which way is up. I have come across plenty that are fitted upside down. It leads to problems.

Did you ever share how you created the chamber or was it already open? How did you get the curved render effect? Was it plaster straight over everything or did you need to protect the chamber with something to prevent cracks?

Fantastic video, very informative and helpful. I love the brass hot air ornament on the wood burner, what’s it called and where did you buy it?

Just had an esse stove delivered with the first section of six inch flue pipe. One end won't fit into the stove as it's to big. The other end fits in but is wobbly and loose. 3 or 4 mm gap around the side? Does it have to be cemented into place? No mention of anything about the flue in instruction manual. Does anyone know .

Just a note to those who have not seen the previous video on installing the stove. The stove has an external air intake connection, despite this being an existing house, this type of installation is what all new builds require.... but it is common sense too as you are not drawing the air from the room to feed combustion, but the colder external air. Being also a Clearview user, Please ensure that you always buy a stove that preheats the incomming air and mixes it into the burn chamber.

Which direction is the fan supposed to spin? I installed the new one and it is spinning anticlockwise! Looks like the blade is supposed to spin clockwise. Possibly the coloured wires were the wrong way around as I needed to change the connector.

Great video, thanks! 3:10 I wouldn't buy a cheap Chinese stove, not just because of the poor quality but because we have to reduce the shipping of ridiculously heavy things like that half way around the world.

Hi there, great video. I can't get any heat from my new stove? I can sit next to it and get warm but everyone tells me "You'll definitely need the windows open as it will be too hot in the house". Any ideas on what i'm doing wrong? I've a 7kw multi stove and i'm using hotties? The vents are set wide open and it burns right but it's not exactly raging hot?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 9 жыл бұрын
+Mark Burrows Not familiar with hotties but they are as dry as pellets so should burn very well. All models differ, our last wood stove took more effort to maintain the heat output but once you work out the best way to run it, it was fine. Providing the flue is drawing properly and everything is as it should be I would suggest that you get a real good burn going before closing anything down, make sure the stove itself has got hot. Then try closing down the primary/lower vent and control it with the top vent. Also with our multi fuel we always leave a good layer of ash on top of the grate. I am sure those more knowledgeable will comment soon and may be able to suggest something else.

If your stove does not have an external air intake connection it may be that the air being drawn into the stove is pulling cold air into the room, meaning that the draft makes it seem cold all the time.

just fired up my first brand new wood burner today. i predict my £5 bag of wood (10kg)from the supermarket to be gone by tomorrow night. does that sound about right?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 7 жыл бұрын
Possibly. It can be a costly way to buy it and often it's softwood. We light the fire with 3 or 4 logs and then need to add 1 large log every hour or so I guess. The key is buy in bulk if possible and only seasoned hardwood. That will give you long burn times and the most efficient way to buy. Unless you have woodland or a free wood source it usually ends up costing more than oil/gas, at least at the moment. :-( Enjoy your fire though, nothing beats it!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I was just wondering what plaster you used to line the insides of the fireplace? Our house is clunch so ideally we would use lime plaster of which we have some left over. I just wondered if there's a legal requirement to use flame retardant plasterboard instead? Thanks
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 6 жыл бұрын
If you can just render/plaster the inside of teh opening that is the best as you will not have the clearance to combustabiles for any type of plasterboard. If you need to board it out you can use Hardie backer or a vermiculite board. Lime plaster on to masonry is fine though, that is what the sides are on ours, just make sure it has fully cured before using stove.

As you have know owned this stove for a while do you feel the Clearview Vision 500 was the right choice? As I have a similar size room 5mx4mx3m. Just wondered if you would make the same purchase again? Should I go smaller the same or go larger still?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 8 жыл бұрын
This is one of the best purchases we have made to date. Size is spot on for our room, and easily heats the next room when bifold a open. If you can go for the vision 500 them do as it is so adaptable you can run it just how you need it. Not come across any other stove that are as easy to light and that keep glass so clean.

how do you keep the stove window clean?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 9 жыл бұрын
+airwood99 To be honest this stove barely needs to be touched as it tends to stay clean 99% of the time. A mentioned above, dry fuel is the key. If it is very sooted up you can just use oven cleaner and paper towel.
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 9 жыл бұрын

Can you explain about that fan on top of your stove please.
@spencerwilton8876
@spencerwilton8876 8 жыл бұрын
It's not a fan, it's a christmas decoration. Usually candle powered- you can just see the tea light sized metal cup at the base. Its a decorative item, not serving any practical purpose. You can get heat powered stove fans though which circulate the heat.
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 8 жыл бұрын
As Spencer has said, it is just a decoration that spins with the heat. Actually it gives a good guide to how hot it's burning too. A stove fan is on the Christmas list and should be a great addition.

Telling people that Chinese products are not as good as quality is not stereotyping it is true. you shouldn’t have to whip yourself every time you tell the truth about another country. There’s nothing wrong with being patriotic English products or European products are better than they are better.

What is the hearth made of? What was the cost roughly?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 8 жыл бұрын
+Alex Terry Our hearth was a honed granite, which is basically a lustre/unpolished finish. It looks a litte more like slate but does not mark as easily. We had it cut to our measurements by a local granite worktop place for around £150.
@alexterry3379
@alexterry3379 8 жыл бұрын
+TheRestorationCouple So the granite and cut in total was £150?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 8 жыл бұрын
Just found the invoice, it was £180 all in. We collected and fit it ourselves. It was 20mm granite and we had the edges chamferred and corners finished with a 30mm radius. Hope that helps.

have you ever run into issues of liquid leaking from where the flue from the stove meets the chimney? black tar looking stuff and smells
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 8 жыл бұрын
Not with this stove but it is usually an indication of bad or unseasoned wood and also condensation in the flue. Is the liner insulated and what is your outdoor temp at the moment?
@glyntutt1586
@glyntutt1586 9 жыл бұрын
Building regs should always be followed, but sign off is only needed as a condition of planning or due to other rennovation works which require formall sign off. HETAS installers are there to stop cowboy installers, but most good self instals are of equal or better quality. Insurance is terrible at paying out for fires, sweep.it yourself at least once a year and try to use rigid insulated stainless liners.
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 9 жыл бұрын
+Glyn Tutt Thanks for the great tips Glyn. Hadn't realised that it didn't have to be signed off, I did mention it to our BCO when he was in to check some other and assumed it had to be signed off too. How does one use a solid liner in an older property, assume that has to be external or separate from the original chimney?
@glyntutt1586
@glyntutt1586 9 жыл бұрын
Flexible liners are easier to fit, they are lighter in weight and for a professional fitter they comply with accepted regs. However, they lack the possible benefit of a rigid systems option to have insulation. Usually a load bearing bracket is fitted to the back wall inside the chimney. I have then inserted the liner, one section at a time from the base. Someone on top then fits a concrete or stone slab to stabilise it and fit the cowl. The bracket clamps around the lowest section and is good for a a length of 6m. The regs apply to new builds or when you are doing controllable rennovation. If you have an existing chimney in an existing house and do not live in a smoke control zone, then all you are doing is improving an existing installation.
