This is fantastic. Do you have a method for denoting depth values?
@MattCarves
@MattCarves Ай бұрын
Go by feel, or drill a small hole to the depth
@willbephore3086
@willbephore3086 Ай бұрын
Okay thanks. I'm more familiar with painting, so have developed a view for relative value, but visually, not dimensionally. For a beginner in carving maybe I'd sketch it out, mark the values, then drill small holes accordingly, to get a feel for the depths.

My grandson is trying to replicate the eye for his dragon but not sure what products you’re using. He lives in AZ/US and has been studying your video. Are you able to give specific products names and cations for the eye componets, so we can find here in the US?
@MattCarves
@MattCarves 8 ай бұрын
Sorry I cant give specific names as the products are made in New Zealand, they are also somewhat toxic ( I use them in my day job and wear safety gear. But essentially you could do the same with oven baked clay (such as scuptey), acrylic paints, and a water based art varnish

Amazing piece Matt, the scales are really well done. I would never of thought to make the eye separately. Only one problem with it... where's the rest of the dragon?? 😄 Thanks for showing the burrs you're using, i'll just add them to my wish list!

That is Awesome! Which Dremel do you recommend using? I have an older model 3000 and want to know if it is up to the task of doing things like this.
@MattCarves
@MattCarves 3 жыл бұрын
So I use a dremel 4000 and I carve mainly hardwoods. I reckon the 3000 is probably good enough. I can't say for sure as have never used a 3000, but worth using it, as you already have it. Cheers for watching

That looks really great. I need to get some wood to you to try. You'd make something epic. Have you tried Irish bog oak. Been in the bogs preserved by the peat,the deeper the older and blacker. Mines approximately 3/5 thousand years young. Would love to see someone professional work thier magic.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🧙‍♂️😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
