I've made hundreds of these. Here is a few suggestions. It's takes me around 20mins from start to finish to assemble a tankard. Cut the bevels and width for the sections in one long piece. I usually do 5-6' sections. Then I sand them all by hand both sides. Then I cut them to length. Place the pieces on painters tape (sticky side up) against a straight edge. Lay the pieces side by side. Glue up the joints, roll into shape. Use 3 - 4" hose clamps. wipe out glue with damp towel and let dry. Once dry place the piece on a solid piece for the base. Trace around the shape and cut out slightly oversized. glue on base, sand or file flush with sides. se epoxy for handle. Finish with two-3 coats of food grade epoxy on inside, and spar urethane on the outside. I have a video or two I posted to show Steve from Woodworking for mere mortals how to make em.

i would have used hose clamps, but hey, that's just me. the setup for sanding the interiors on the other hand, is pure genius

tape or wet rope would of worked too. but i have clamps. and wanted to force out all the glue, just to see.

Andrew B it was a good idea about the sanding but you can't get all the way to the bottom on the sides or the ve r you bottom because of the washer on the bottom.

sorry for the delay in the last part of this project but we have been held up a little by the epoxy we had chosen for the inside of the mug, we bought the only epoxy that was available to us that was FDA approved for food use.. the bottles warned us of the industry leading longest work time, we didn't think that was all that true, well its 48hours and counting waiting for the epoxy to dry on the inside so that we can attach the handles, once the handles are on and the glue is dry then i can give them a final sanding and varnish and wax them.... all in all there has been a lot of time wasted on waiting for things to dry... looking back we could have really just started to make more of these as we waited for other parts to dry or cure but ended up doing other projects.

Hey how's it going. Great video. Quick question. How did you make the sand paper jig. The video was to fast to see what your doing there.

The part where I cut the emery cloth into strips? I just screwed a bench clamp to a block of random wood. Then used a piece of wood screwed down to clamp it, then drilled out a hole to attach to the bolt. Once the washer was welded on I tightened the inner nut to clamp the emery cloth unto place.

I think you might personally be responsible for the high cost of clamps due to supplier shortage.
