Hi Gary, this is a beautiful ornament. This year (2024) I have been unable to get at my lathe for several months which has left me really missing the Xmas seasons ornament turnings and I find myself living vicariously through turners like you. Thank you for your inspiration and I look forward to the 2025 turning season.

Thank You Gary....OMG...( i am thinking "does Gary ever stop thinking, recline back, put your feet up & watch some mindless show on the tube?", HA) Gary your mind seems to always be in gear with zero idle hands. Wonderful thoughtful ideas coming from your shop and I use your enthusiasm to keep myself fired up to create things in my own shop. THANK YOU GARY!!!!! I am NOT as productive OR inventive as you are and in my minds eye you are always working on the top rung of that skillful ladder.... (but here I am still sitting)....until next time.....TM
@ThePapa19472 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Tuffy! So when I am sitting in front of the TV watching some mindless show I have my laptop in front of me sketching up one thing or the other. I have always had to keep my mind busy on one thing or the other. The nice thing about angles it is endless how they can go together. Off to the shop to make something that takes less thinking LOL. Thanks for watching, Gary

Hi Gary, another fine video lesson in how to turn. This was excellent, and I like your finished product. Both are nice, but I'm with you, the one you showed us first is the nicer one. It's really a pleasure to get a lesson every week in how to do innovative turnings. I hope to try out this method of turning inside out objects. But, like you, I'd like to figure out a new way of doing things; I want to figure out how to make the staves curve towards the top. I'm sure it's through using one of the custom jigs you have made, I'm just not sure how yet. Thank you for providing us another lesson in how to do fine woodworking. See you again next week.
@ThePapa19472 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mark, these are really fun to make and I will probably be pushing it a little farther than this as well. Are you wanting to make the staves taper from the bottom out and up? With them being straight pieces I am guessing. If you have questions about that let me know. Take care, Gary
@markbahlke90912 жыл бұрын
@@ThePapa1947 Hi Gary, I am thinking of how to make the staves twist as they go up, sort of wrap around in one direction. I have a hard time thinking in 3-d, and figuring the cuts to make staves that will nest together, and have a twist in them has hurt my brain already. I was thinking along the lines of your sled for the wavy bowl segments. But I haven't gotten any farther than that. Let me know what you think. Impossible? I don't know.
@ThePapa19472 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, this might be hard to do with the way these are glued up but I am drawing something up right now that will twist; Hopefully I will have it worked out and have made something in a few weeks. Tomorrow I will use some Cedar to test things out. Take care, Gary
