Can you tell me what looks like to me a stick of wax your putting on before the friction polish? And I might add very stick vase great job thanks Larry
@RcWoodturning7 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes it's beeswax mixed with finish oil. I melt the wax and mixed in a little bit of linseed oil. That softens the wax a little bit. Then I pour it into a piece of pvc pipe to harden. That makes my sticks of wax.
@RcWoodturning7 ай бұрын
Oh my bad. The yellow thing is a foam pad for the sand paper. It's not wax. The finish wouldn't stick to the waxed wood very well.

Do you ever have problem with splitting
@RcWoodturning6 ай бұрын
@@jefferybilling9093 I used to. Not so much anymore. If the wood is dry I don't worry about it. If the wood is green I rough turn it then put it in a paper bag with the shavings. Anywhere from 1 to 6 months. That works out pretty good for me.
@RcWoodturning6 ай бұрын
I will also add. I find all my wood around the area. Most of it has been down a while so 90% is already dry when I get it.

Very nice. What make and model is your lathe?
@RcWoodturning7 ай бұрын
Thanks! It's the larger one from harbor freight. 12 x 36. It's been a good lathe. My only complaint is how loud it is. Especially for videos.

I use a cheap belt sander. I showed a clip of me sharpening the bowl gouge a couple videos ago. I will try and show more of it in future videos.

Lovely little piece, as usual. A while ago you demoed your home made friction polish recipe, but I haven't been able to find it. Please show it again.
@RcWoodturning7 ай бұрын
I haven't actually done a video on it, but I did explain a little bit in some comments. Basically what I do is use the can of shellac from the hardware store. I don't add alcohol to it. I just mix a little bit of finish oil and use it like that.
