I've been working with leather since '67 but this approach is totally new to me and I'm so excited to give it a try. Thank you for your videos to help with some do's and don'ts and tips. looks like i can still use my staining/dyeing techniques after transferring my design to the piece, Thank you again. Sincerely, Rob Leal

Hello! Love your content as I’m new to pyro! I’ve been doing leatherwork for years mainly and really love your disclaimer! I’d like to add to stay far away from sharpening compound on leather because the stain will be permanent and unable to be covered up! A lot of times natural oil from hands can be covered up with a leather finish or conditioner! take it from a guy who has made plenty of mistakes! 😂

As somebody who works in leather far more than pyrography. I want to warn anybody who is just picking up leather from Tandy or their local big box craft store, that many many veg tan leathers have a bit of wax or other residue sitting on top. This can cause some charring and/or ash to develop around your burning no matter how low the temperature of your pyro pen. The approach to avoiding this is to apply deglazer to the leather before you do your pattern transfer, you can buy premade ones from most of those same places or you can find a simple DIY recipe by googling.

Appreciate the tip! 🔥🙌

100% this. Also it's possible that some of the same glaze you mentioned can build up on the tip of your burner, making it hard to make full contact with the surface of the leather and therefore harder to control the marks you're making. Easy enough to wipe off, but be careful of the hot tip when you do!

What is the actual conditioning product you use. I am not part of your club so i will need to purchase it but i want to make sure to get the correct product.

Thank you, one question though, is there concern with burning the template or pattern because I notice it’s not metal?
@BurnSavvy Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I understand… the pattern I used was made out of paper, and I used carbon paper to transfer it to the leather. Was there a different video or projects you might be referring to?

@@BurnSavvy I'm sorry perhaps I'm asking this wrong, basically I though in order for one to burn onto the leather I was under the impression that a metal stencil is needed. I didn't know one can burn into the leather using just pair to as a template, or tracing.
@BurnSavvy Жыл бұрын
If you are using the burner to trace the stencil, then, yes, I would definitely recommend a metal stencil. If you’re using a pencil or a tracing tool, or anything like that, pretty much any stencil is just fine.
