That is exactly some of the craft I have worked my way into for some time by now, since a few years before Covid. I have a fair amount of kitchen utensiles completed with a naked blade only. Nothing is quite so satisfying. I see the same sort of raw connection to the wood in your axe and knife work. It feels honest, a genuine expression of a skill with a very simple and primal tool/weapon - used on wood, a most noble medium. Very interesting video, I learned a lot on my first listen and I'll likely come back to it again. Слава.

From the look of the wood , it hadn’t been much time before that tree fell , the wood was very green , what a lucky score . I have a non bearing plum tree that needs to be felled in my front yard , it’s probably 28 years old & over the winter with the snow & rain , it cracked & split the trunk of the tree & now it’s slowly starting to die off , when I come a cross someone who has a chain saw I plan to harvest a lot of its wood for projects . I’d like to make a coffee mug , a flat spatula , & cooking spoon & a curved spatula . I’d wish I had somewhere to store the rest of the wood because it’s a excellent hard wood & great for fires , it burns very clean with very little charcoal next to none .non bearing & bearing fruit trees are excellent for making any utensils or dinnerware out of because the don’t carry pathogens , just some good sanding a wash with clean water , let dry & a thick coat of food grade mineral oil on them & they,ll last a life time , plus they have a pretty color when oil is used with them .

Birch is such a pleasant wood to carve. I’ve enjoyed making a few spoons from it, but it’s not common where I live, so I’m often stuck with oak, maple, walnut, and cherry. They are beautiful woods, especially for bowls, but often so very hard. Birch may not be my choice for bowls, but great for spoons. I’d like to give it a try for a bowl sometime too. Great video and beautiful spoon. Love the design.

I'd be interested in giving those tools a try, they look well made, though I do have some concerns about a few details. A bigger concern is showing carving on one's thighs on KZbin. Yes, it might be safe if you are experienced, but it goes well against the blood triangle rule and people will emulate it. It should not be necessary to do and show this or should come with a big, fat warning imo.

You know, this was an interesting video and the tools and craftsmanship are most excellent … good stuff. I also understand that dialogue free content is _de rigueur_ these days; it’s the IKEA assembly document of KZbin… no translation, etc., but neither is there any sense of thought processes of an artist - we are left only with inference and that is enhanced or limited by the skill of the videography and editing.

I disagree with your comment. Obviously it is meant to be a video to entertain, with different camera shots, random cat, and tools all neat and organized. It's meant to look pretty and entertain foe a couple minutes. There are different videos for those that want to learn how to carve. They are good for what they do but are often far less entertaining, and far more educational
