I suppose it was inevitable that if I'm: 1. Replaying Gw1 at the moment, and 2. Watching a bunch of video game remaster streams and videos at the same time, that this video was going to be made! Edit: Oh a note I never put in the video. But it always astounded me that I got like 200,000 views on a random-nothing Gw1 video, years and years after the game was finished, when I covered the fact that they did an absolutely tiny little patch increasing the view distance. If that doesn't show to some degree the hunger for a project like this that's out there I don't know what does.

If they did make your dream remake… would you want ArenaNet to have their own launcher similar to Blizzard with BattleNet? Was just wondering and I can’t seem to think of reasons for why ArenaNet would not do this?

They would need to remake GW1 with new graphics and all. Yes that would be the next big thing. GW1 thrives when it is populated, and there is no way that remade GW1 wouldn't be a success. I wish another company would buy rights to remake GW1. It doesn't need to be completely the same.

Other “getwokegobroke” bugaboos also made the top ten list of highest grossing films, including The Little Mermaid and Spider-Man Across the Spider Verse. I haven’t played EoD or Soto’s stories yet. I’m a new player and started in Jan. So far I’ve finished the base game, all Tyria mastery lines, living word seasons 1 & 2, Heart of thorns, all HoT mastery lines, and just started LWS3. Personal fractal 47, WvW 100. I’ve been playing the story in order and I haven’t skipped ahead for any unlocks. But, if this story that *starts* right out the gate with a band of racially and gender diverse heroes (including at least one LGBTQ+ hero and her ex-lover-turned-baddie), saving the world from a series of dragons each attempting to corrupt all life into a single ethnostate (risen; mordrem) with the main plot drivers (good and evil) being mostly women somehow manages to go more woke in stories to come, I can’t wait. But you keep repeating that patently false propoganda slogan and telling yourself it’s true. Btw: Bud Light’s manufacturer, Anheuser-Busch, had an annual gross profit for 2023 of $31.984B, a 1.6% *increase* from 2022. I explored Istan, doing the main quest and all the secondary quests i could find, till the point i fought Apocrypha. To be honest, that boss kicked my ass a couple times, which was refreshing coming from gw2 story fights, but also made me think i was doing something wrong. So i looked how to get better gear, changed some skills and distributed attribute points better to my heroes until i defeated it. But after that fight i felt like i was rushing, like it was too early for me to be in that campaign and that i still didn't understand fully how the game worked with it's systems. So i decided to take it slower and do things in order. I created a Mesmer in Prophecyes, did as many as the pre searing side quests i could find and explored the map, got to lvl 7, and yesterday i got to post searing ascalon. I did a couple side quests for the krytan ambassador and unlocked new memser skills from Vassar quests. This is where is stopped for now.

Little things I'd like to see in a remaster- 1- Wardrobe, like in Guild Wars 2. So if there are multiple armor sets you like, you don;t have to take up storage space on them, nor buy multiple runes. 2- a bestiary. Once you slay a monster, you can look up its stats (which you yourself would have liked to make more visible), skills, and some lore about it. 3- new sidequests, particularly in regions that don;t have vent many, such as the southern Shiverpeaks. This probably be cheap, as there would be few if any new assets. 4- a boulder elemental boss named "Boldest Elemental".

@@WoodenPotatoes I'm thinking of some of the things toolbox does, such as being able to travel directly to an outpost you've visited before from a drop-down menu instead of having to go to a port city, and/or being able to set up a list of favourite outposts. Anet had clearly thought map travel needed improving because they almost but not quite added this functionality with Embark Beach so I don't think it breaks the game for toolbox to do this. Being able to send all materials to storage, being able to ID all items with one click, being able to access storage at a distance - they're all features I feel lost without if I forget to load up toolbox. Oh and being able to see the main character name of someone on your friends list when they message you on an alt, that's really handy too!

Hm, that's interesting. Even if it wasn't a "remaster," it'd be interesting if the next GW game went back to it's roots with the "co-op RPG" style rather than an MMO (like GW2). This seems less likely to sabotage GW2 by fracturing the MMO's community with direct competition, and may even draw people to it. The skeptic inside me says the Unreal 5 project is just an outsourced project from NCsoft or another publisher and has nothing to do with the Guild Wars franchise though.

Regarding the cutscenes, if I recall it was in one of them extralife streams one of the og devs said that they had no proper artist friendly tools for in-engine camera animations back then, so the cutscenes are literally keyframed by typing in the values in text (e.g lerp.x(0, 15, 10), excuse my pseudo code haha) instead of having any kind of artistic interface, which you would take for granted nowadays. I’ve had a lot more sympathy for the cutscenes since learning this, but nevertheless I agree that they are really clunky looking lol. I started playing GW1 in 2018 when I got hooked to the lore by GW2 (season 3 stuff with the Mursaat, reading a ton of wiki about it, and the ultimate one was Bastion of the Penitent, that raid wing made me do it). After completing all of the campaigns and dedicating 150+ hours into it, I can safely say it is one of my favorite games of all time. I am a sucker for some old school 2000s RPG vibes, and the art department of ANET is just phneomenal. THe feel, the atmosphere and the music of GW1 is incredible. When I first heard Abaddon's Mouth OST while arriving on Ember Bay, I was mesmerized. It has been only 6 years but I already feel massive nostalgia for the game, especially Prophecies. There is something magical about that setting and that story. The only complaint I always had was I wish I had people who were interested in coop. I would LOVE to just play through the whole game with someone, to do all the endgame stuff as well which I havent done (Fissure of Woe, Underworld etc). So a remaster would be a dream come true, but probably just a dream

I remember the only point I got really stuck on my very first playthrough was from not being able to solo the ascension missions due to not having any control over the henchmen in something that was clearly designed for multiplayer. Eventually I could call in a friend who had unlocked heroes and we breezed through all three missions and it was almost laughable in comparison to how much I struggled before. If you could flag them like the heroes I think that would help a lot! It would also be fun if you could have something like the squadron controls from FFXIV where you can tell them to attack/defend and so on, so for example if you go through a rough area and want to play more defensively they will heal at a higher percentage of your health or maybe even switch out one offensive skill for a defensive on their hotbars.

this might be a controversial take or rather odd I suppose, and this isn't nostalgia i haven't played gw1 when it came out I started in gw2, but by far I prefer gw1 graphically, it doesn't have the weird glossiness that some things in gw2 have and just in general the jaggedness of the old models and roughness of those textures gives so much character to the game, i find it much more interesting artistically. I prefer that era of video game graphics and art style by far those think vanilla/tbc wow, morrowind etc so it's not surprising but my point is is that i'd love a remaster that did some gameplay changes like adding jumping and stuff but had the option to play with classic graphics.

Hell, I still have screenshots of an actual Anet dev interrupting our GvG and saying, quote "I'm watching you guys violate my gamemode". Because we dared to create our own fun in WvW. I don't know who came up with all the fun PvP modes for GW1 but sure as hell they weren't around for GW2 anymore. So yeah...I agree the mentality probably isn't there anymore. At the very least it would need fresh and motivated faces. But hey, this video is all about dreaming am I right?

Guild wars 1 was special , every aspect of the game was just so well done. The way access to the Elite PvE content was tied to your regions success in the Hall of Hero's , everything about it was unique and different and special. The creativity of the players in that game and coming up with things like the 55HP monk are just thingd we have never experienced in any game sense. I find myself all the time thinking how many amazing things were done in gw1 that not only didn't make it into guild wars 2, but no other game since. I have over 5,000 hours on GW1 , and i can honestly say in my opinion nothing about gw2 is better than gw1 except the more fluid combat. I remember hearing when gw2 launched people were saying how great it was and that the only people that didn't like it was GW1 loyalists. I was one if them, I tried gw2 a dozen times over the years, and to me, it's just not Guild Wars.

About the cutscene camera: I actually suspect (but have done 0 testing to confirm) that the Camera isn't properly handling higher screen resolutions. I also don't remember it being so janky when I first played, but I first played the game at 1024x768, and I'm wondering if there are elements of how the cutscene camera works that causes it to bug out some at modern resolutions.

I dont think we need a remaster, I still play gw1 and it just still holds up. But you know I think something like a classic season would be nice. A new Char slot to buy for 10€ or something to play the classic season, and those characters are then in districts of their own and we start with only prophecies but everything else is like it is on the current build so skill balances items maybe even heros available etc still as they now are and everyone just starts in presearing again, after 18Months we get factions another 18 months later we get nightsfall etc (with all the corresponding loginand character select backgrounds brought back). Maybe we also start with hardmode being a thing. Just a fresh season progressing through the stories and expansion again till they go on to join the current state. This would revitalize the game and the community quite a bit, it would not breake the game apart as these characters would join the current state and maybe a small dedicated dev team would bring some love for balancing and a couple needed patches, which would also transition into gw1s current state, bringing a lot to the table for the game overall.

Honestly GW1 is one of the few MMOs that I think has scaled very well into the current year. The engine runs at a locked 170 hz on my monitor and never misses a beat, luckily they did add some of those settings to increase draw distance and address some of the lag issues. The population boom would be really great for a remaster, though

I would really love a remaster or remake, but i would really like some gameplay touches, like being able to move as you cast skill (melee skills in particular), and being able to jump. I think the better idea would be a remake, keeping this coop style approach, with a new engine (say UE5 since they have something in the work with it), mainly because they could develop content a lot easier if they want to mantain it, they could make more zones explorable (breaking these invisible walls) and updating the gameplay just a bit to be more fluid like WoW gameplay I know this would be a much bigger effort, but it would also be a much more hyped release, and man I would be in, the only thing that keeps me off atm is the slight gameplay clunkiness, the camera weirdness, and some missing QoL (like having to click the salvage kit every time after you salvage one item, quest items bag, etc) and UI could also use some improvements (like showing your keybinds instead of default 1-8 numbers). Man imagine GW story with high quality voice acting and cinematics, it would be so epic

The same hour this video was posted, I finished prophecies on my “ironman” (using a bank but its a fresh account) ranger. Off to factions we go! I recently just quit playing WoW Classic after 4 years and have ended up back to my first MMO, and having a blast. Biggest things I would want from a remaster would be 1. New graphics as you mentioned, mostly just fixing the awful texture stretching lol. 2. Fix the damn henchmen! Not just their terrible skill bars (for most of them), but also the ability to micro them much better. Having them all bunch up and die to a meteor shower is painful. 3. I love the idea of fixing up the inventory/ID/Salvaging situation, especially if you are playing a self-sustaining character. My ironman has about 2 of 4 full xunlai tabs of runes/insignias. 4. This one is just a pipe dream for me but expanding Pre-Searing to have a lot more to do. Maybe doing a quest or something locks the characters into pre so you cant get a massive power spike in post. The best place in the entire game. Been watching your videos since you started your prophecies let’s play, love your stuff!

The only thing it could use is some armor retexturing and terrain fixes. Henchmen skill update would be nice but tbh 99.99% of the player base couldn't give a reasonable skill update for henchmen so it would likely be a wash. Skill rebalancing and acquisition timing are the same problem. You all would make Dunham an esurge mesmer, Claude a BiP necro, Stephan a 100 blades warrior and so on. That's not what is needed. Dunham is the best crafted henchmen in prophecies and anyone who can't see that isn't really someone who needs to be rebalancing them. Regarding skill acquisition timing on a new account. You just make a pvp character first and run through the training arena for 1 or 2k balthazar faction and then unlock 1-2 skills so you can buy them in Ascalon City from Sir Bertran. Sometimes its better to leave things alone that are not broken.

I think you're totally right about how players would treat the henchmen. Personally I don't think players should control their loadouts like heroes exactly for that reason, I'd want a dev to do it. When I first started playing GW2 years back, I discovered the Hall of Monuments stuff and started looking into GW1 and eventually played it. Proud to say I did the fully leveled in Pre Searing on one character and made my way through a lot of the game but ended up hitting difficulty walls later in the game which sort of flattened my progress. If they could add in a difficulty slider for the content I would go play it in a heartbeat because it has forever annoyed me that I couldn't play through the whole of the game but the barriers there are just too much for me and I know I'd end up hating the game if I brute forced my way through.

I've been watching WP since the GW1 days, and although I no longer play GW2, I still enjoy following the channel throughout the years. GW1 was special for so many reasons: the music was exceptional, the build crafting was its own game-play loop, and the challenging/rewarding content made the game a joy to play. I've always been a fan of hub/zone-based games as I feel they allow for more curated experiences. I think GW1 has a good sense of scale and immersion, in part due to its structure. Dying always felt consequential, and PvP was fun, albeit not for the faint of heart. I know a lot of this is nostalgia, but I'd love a remaster. I believe there is a market for such a thing if we look at the industry as a whole, although it seems very unlikely.

I concur that a remaster would be appreciated. This was my first 'MMO' back in 2007, and to be fair, I never took to GW2 the way I did with the first game. Granted, it has dated in many respects. But the sheer customisation and overall respect the team had for the player remains unparalleled, in my opinion. Overall, there is an atmosphere/ feel to the game that I feel is sorely missing these days. As an aside, I recently bagged a sealed copy of the original Prophecies Collector's Edition, will be covering that on my channel in the near future.

I'm playing last epoch atm with the "no player trade faction" and I'm enjoying it quite a lot, so I on board with you regarding no trading post. The gameplay and buildcraft of gw1 is one of the things I miss the most (funnily, the ARPG genre with poe/last epoch/grim dawn/etc have pretty much taken the buildcraft crown away from gw1 for me, I feel they actually do a better job of it than gw1 does now) but I sort of agree that possibly not touching it too much might be a better idea for a remaster. 18:14 You mention Reyna here, but the one henchman I remember the most was Alesia and her infamously bad AI at healing and ressing (to the point even the end of gw1 references it),

i love Last Epoch build craft but gw1 is different breed when it comes to team compositions. The mobs having player skills and having their own comps made pve feel like pvp while in pvp there were such crazy comps like eoe bombs, conta spike and alot more stuff. So ye Arpg like Last Epoch beats it on single build craft but gw1 was more about comp structure instead thinking only about your build. I love Last Epoch but its no close to gw1 in terms of theory craft just because there is no comp gameplay and mobs are just there to dmg/sustain check.

Here's a crazy one; a mobile client. The UI isnt actually THAT BAD for mobile as it is. You probably wouldn't be able to play competetive PvP on your phone but 90%+ of the game would be perfectly playable with touch. Imagine Pre-Searing be free and the rest of the game unlockable by purchase, you'd be looking at a competetive mobile title without even remastering much of the graphics, with more content than most other mobile games. The mobile market is massive. I could easily see the game reinvigorated with millions of new players with a mobile release

With the success of Larian with BG3 and Arena Net's GW1 - GW2 I think we can justify The Flameseeker Prophecies as a stand alone modern RPG where people can relive the events of GW1 with a modern coat of paint I know this goes far off and away from your point in this video, maybe a different video and discussion could be had, but if we could take the best parts of gw1 and gw2 and tell a more indepth narrative of the flameseeker prophecies with modern graphics and mechanics such as those seen in BG3 I would absolutely 100% pay cash for it. I dont even think this isnt something near ArenaNets mindset, its already been shown through GW1 and GW2 easter eggs and interviews that they are fans of the Dungeons and Dragons franchise and most likely have played, enjoyed, and discussed not just the game itself but also its subsequent success.

It is perfect as it is - I know maybe some additional graphical (not substantial), very minor UI and QoL stuff, populate a little maps, skill effects - everything else would destroy the hearth of GW1... I am afraid a big remaster would destroy more than it would fix - yes it would be appealing for new people but would they really stay to play the game? Would the effort be worth it?It is different to remaster and profit from single player game than from MMO... A relatively lower effort changes would be OK from time to time - but a full remaster don't think so...

I find Guild Wars 1 to be quite in a perfect state right now. There are minor things with skill balances I would love to see touched, but overall the graphics and the mechanics are still fine today. Look at what Warcraft III Reforged did to their game when it released. It filled the game with bugs, technical issues regarding crashes and disconnects and outright removed features that the existing game had. For those reason alone I don't think Guild Wars 1 needs a remaster, for I can't really tell what they should improve.
