Oh he also has a Sci-Fi train layout that he's working on that's all Star Wars that's actually built on his wall and part of his entertainment center in the basement

If it was me, I'd clamp the two halves together so that they match perfectly, then drill new holes to bolt them together (and plug the old ones so I didn't use them by mistake; I've done things like that before). That way the halves will align themselves when you set it up for use.

This is in fact what I just did today haha. I thought about it a lot and hoped I could get away without having to re-drill holes. But I figured I would save effort and pain in the long run so I did it. Had to buy some more clamps, and clamped it with some wood across the gap, which I probably should have done in the first place, but it didn't occur to me. The biggest pain was removing the alignment dowels, and I haven't put them back yet. I might not at all... Things seem aligned a lot better at least.

Purchased three boxes at a great price on eBay…didn’t like that the road bed was not “spilt” like cork…if you turn the road bed over you’ll notice a faint line down the middle…I set up my band saw (thin kerf cut @ 1/32”) with a centered jig and split the road bed into two pieces…length wise…🤨 Much easier laying on curves…and straights…installed just like cork without the drying-out issue. Worked for me…just saying…😎

You can hide the gaps between the track beds in mud... sorry, wrong hobby branch... i like seeing you building your model railway not the perfect way. A little adventure to watch.
