Holy.... 7years of searches and never knew this amazing video existed. KZbin search algorithm really sucked. You sir, i thank you and i wish you healthy all the time and will never experience any bad day. Again, thank you

Yes, since KZbin started using algorythmns (which I dont understand) my viewings have markedly declined. Thanks for your appreciation for the hard work and thought I put into my videos.

I can’t believe this video doesn’t have 100k + views. It is excellent!

At 0.28 seconds "before I get stuck into the world of gluing wood" I'm with you. One of the most interesting documentaries I've ever watched was about the "history of Adhesives". It went from the earliest know use of glue right up to the modern technology of todays adhesives. It's a must see if you are intrigued by how things stay "stuck" together. BTW 3M is leading the pack on R&D.

A nice bit of PR for 3M! I wouldn't know what you mean by 'leading the pack on R& D' by 3M. I am well aware of their excellent adhesive tapes but they don't come up on my radar over woodworking adhesives as a leader. Hotmelt and PUR adhesives are never going to be permanent for wood (check out my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZojCm3mHqq6qfJY ) and PUR is researched by the makers of Titebond (my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3-bh2injparraM). Polurethane adhesives tend to be messy to clean up. It is hard to beat aglue that cand be cleaned up with a wet water rag.

I found this after watching the recent videos on end grain joints from Patrick Sullivan, The wood whisperer and good old Stumpy Nubs. All super interesting.

Just to update - I am allowing plenty of time for the glue test pieces to cure and am still devising/testing a low cost strength test jig using a calibrated digital bicycle pump and tyre! Suffice to say that for end grain gluing Titebond No Run No Drip is stronger than Titebond 3 as stated by the manufacturer and on my pre tests so far. Hope to finalise tests and make the video by the end of this month (Feb 2013). I'm including a comparison also with my old time favourite Cascamite. Keep glued!

Best for what? will be part of my future tests so watch this space! It does include the word 'Ultimate' on the 'Titebond 3' bottle so that might be a clue!

I like using po ket screws in both directions And wood glue. Works like a champ

Understood. But if I screw end of board to another board via pocket hole join in example, will glue applied there will strengthen construction a little or is it completely pointless waste of glue?
@WoodomainJeremyBroun6 жыл бұрын
I think you are missing the point - just relying on end grain gluing is essentially weak. It should always be re-inforced because the essence of a strong glued joint is fibre overlap. I thought I made that clear in the video. If you use pocket holes just bear in mind that drilling itself weakens wood if the section of the wood is already small. The best join will always be in the same material (a glued wood insert into wood). This is a general principle of all materials bonding.

0:40 You said it was made by hand, was the entire thing made by hand? (was the wood milled by hand, for instance?) Or at some arbitrary point in the process from tree to box did you decide to stop using power tools and use only tools that were made from the use of power tools.
