The only thing more relaxing than clearing land is fishing. Grab your rod and make your day complete buddy. You have not done a fishing video in a long time. You are living every man's dream of having a good tractor.

That area would make a good orchard. It's really coming together. I remember when you first started with the 9N . you've came a long way

I like these videos. When i was a kid when i got out of bed on saturdays. I could hear tbe sounds of tractors or chain saws or drills or a multitide of power tools or lawn mowers. And my daddy would be working on something. He would put me to work outside. He is gone from this world now. I would love to go back to work for daddy. Thats why i love these videos it reminds me of him. Thank you for making these videos

Robert that back pasture is already starting to shape up with the bit that you have done, and sure it will look awesome over time. thinking now would be a good time, to tackle some more of that wesitera now that the cooler weather has set in, or not yet?? I remember way back when when you had the old N9 and was bush hogging along the front and some of the back as well... Those were the days. already looking forward to tomorrows adventures on the Old Byrd Farm...Stay blessed..

Nice work, Robert. I can see why you want the pasture open and the woods cleared out. That will allow walking through the trees and listening to the birds. It will also be easier to spot a shoulderless critter.

It is still amazing what you accomplished with the old tired tractor and old tired brush hog - beat a lot of wisteria into submission. A nice mix of pasture and woodland will be nice for evening walks as you said, or bring in some other livestock perhaps?

Oh man! I just talked about that yesterday on a video I filmed. I pointed out an old stump and said it was one of the first things I’d ever done with the old 9N… pulled that to the back of the property lol

Robert I was hoping that you would be working inside the house but I guess like all men you have to play on your new tractor lol 😂

He might be waiting for the next dumpster to show up to do inside work until then outside work with the new toy and the last few tractor videos could have been filmed the same day just different segments

Terracing may have been common in GA in the 1830s, however you might want to look for paperwork from the US Soil Conservation Svs. They were offering nice subsidies to protect farmland from erosion with terracing back in the 1940s and 50s too. Some co makes a chainsaw caddy that bolts to the back of your rollbar. You could drive up beside of those low branches and saw them off. Think I saw that on Tractor Mike YT channel last wk.

@craigwills16152 жыл бұрын
Robert, will you endeavour to grow sweet potatoes on a portion of the cleared land?
@marypettitt91502 жыл бұрын
I can see the remnants of the terraces, Robert. This adds a date to the farm, I think. Terracing is labor intensive, and after the Civil War, labor was scarce. Therefore, I'm guessing the terracing was done before that time. Adam Byrd is found in the 1867 Reconstruction Oath book. This may or may not indicate he fought for the Confederacy. Since the boys' grandmother is remembered for hiding them, perhaps Adam was not on the farm at that time. Adam was not listed as having people of color in his household in any of the censuses I searched. Could the terracing have been done before Adam bought the farm, or could he have done the work himself. Oh, for a journal. Is this the property Adam owned? I've always thought it was.

Have you considered limbing your trees? Clearing the lower branches at least up to about 6ft. Less fire hazard. Cleaner look. Less pokey branches for anyone or the dogs to poke your eyes. Any wisteria trying to sneak up a tree will be easier to spot.
@alanatolstad48242 жыл бұрын
It was easier to see the terraces as you walked back toward the tractor.---How often do you bring your family over to see the changes?
@barbrichards62292 жыл бұрын
But some electric fence and get a couple of sheep will clean a lot of that grass.

The tree was a trail marker. That how the native American's found their way from place to place. We have them in Ohio and New York.
@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG2 жыл бұрын
No, not in this case. That tree grew up in the past 30 years. From the 1840’s - 1970’s that was a clear field with no trees, it just recently grew up
@randywaite45732 жыл бұрын
Generally its not in me to criticize but this is an unsafe way to clear the area. It looks good from a distance but you leave all the tree stubble which is a tripping hazard and harder to clear the stubble than just going in with loppers and cutting the trees off at ground level. Also this could cause costly and time consuming tire punctures next time you mow. Next is using the bucket to take down branches which con open up larger than needed wounds on the tree and could kill that tree. Cut lower branches off with the saw and apply wound dressing to each cut. Overall tractors are a great tool and make work much easier. Doing this up front where al the vines are is ok but again one needs to pick up and burn all the debris to limit more growth from all those pcs. of vine. Hope i didn't ruin your day. stay safe.
