Buy a decent paintbrush, Phil, and angled would work better, too. A good quality brush will make a significant difference in the outcome.

I mean brushes could be a whole video. Oddly enough, I had a pretty decent paint brush for this. And off screen, I did use an angled brush.

Why did you choose Tung oil over say BLO?
@WoodsmithShowandmagazineАй бұрын
The BLO seems kinda hit or miss on how well it works. Oftentimes, it's goopy and even after thinning, doesn't look right to me. The tung oil had a better appearance and didn't seem as yellow. The tung oil brought out more of the brown tones in the oak top, which is what I was hoping for. That's totally subjective though. Finish descriptions can be positive "warm amber" or negative "yellow" and look almost identical.

Great timing, I'm finishing up a very similar table and plan to paint the base and use some sort of oil based finish on the top. Are you able to share what brand/version of paint you used? I'm thinking about going with Benjamin Moore Advance waterborne alkyd. Thanks fornthe great info Phil. Amd loved the use of the word "quotidian."

You're very welcome. It's one of my favorite (and under appreciated) words. I used Benjamin Moore's "Ben" line acrylic in "White Swan"
