It's a nice looking bowl. It reminds me of a salad bowl that we used to have back in the late '60's , early '70's. Of courage that was in hard plastic. Ah, bygones. . . . .

Another stunning bowl. I always think you must have immense patience at the squidging stage - I fear I would get impatient and end up rushing and leaving gaps. I think I shall stick to watching the videos!
@JimsonMakes

Thank you very much. Yes it did take a while to do the squidging, Milliput has a long working time but I was pushing it a bit with this one, especially as it was a hot day and it was setting faster than usual. Cheers, Jim

Thanks for another stunner Jim. Thanks also for introducing me to Milliput which I use a lot and not only for wood turning. I have a vegetable allotment and a few days ago my neighbouring gardener found that his plastic rain water butt had cracked at the bottom. I came to the rescue and fixed it with Milliput thus saving him about £40. Your likeness to Mike W is quite uncanny:-). Have a great weekend at UKIS. Best, Alan.

I love using Milliput on small projects, but find the cost of the product these days - Jan 2021 - to be very cost prohibitive. A look on Amazon today shows it at $20.00 per box. I’m guessing it took two or three tubes of the product for this project.
@JimsonMakes
@JimsonMakes 3 жыл бұрын
glad you have tried Milliput, thankfully it is much cheaper here in the UK. I can’t remember how many packs I used but I would guess 2. you can get away with less by creating shallower inlay recesses but you then have to be careful not to overcut it when finishing

Masterful job!! You have again gotten me into the Milliput mood. Thanks. Where do you find/purchase holly wood like you have shown here??? Whenever I go looking I end up at exotic wood shops where all I can get are maybe 1 1/2 ft. to 2 ft. pieces maybe 3/4 inch X 3 or 4 inches. If I go to a name brand shop, a piece for a pen blank often requires a bank loan for just ONE pen's worth!!! When I went to try to grow my own all I could find were holly bushes...not the best place to find the long pieces you were hiding in your shop!!! Since I've retired I shave once/month whether I need to or not..... (Life is too short otherwise. Shaving for over 40 years just to have a job...well... that was enough.) My frequency rule includes not even shaving for church on Sundays...….. :>)
@JimsonMakes

Thank you very much Steven. I was lucky to find a lot of small holly bushes and trees that had been cut down in forest clearance a few years ago. The holly branches had been stacked for burning so I managed to rescue a few. I have gradually used them all up on various carving, turning and walking stick projects. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos. Cheers Jim

I’ve never heard of ‘wood turning’ . It just caught my eye on KZbin and I wanted a ‘look-see’. My husband has made wooden pen cases before, but I never knew how it was done. Never thought to ask either lol. It’s quite an art and beautiful! If my arms were a bit stronger I’d give to give it a go myself, but I get satisfaction from watching. Thank you for posting your turns! 😁

Great video and a beautiful bowl. Just wondering, is it possible to add coloring pigment when you mix the milliput?
@JimsonMakes
@JimsonMakes 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, yes you can add pigment to white milliput when mixing. I have done lots of experiments with this and I have found that it is best to mix pure pigment powder into a slow set epoxy resin to form a thick paste and then knead this into the milliput. It is a messy job and be careful which pigment powder you use as some are highly toxic. Cheers, Jim.
