Wonderful turning Robbie. If I ever get to be half as gifted as you I'll call myself a wood turner. It was doubly enjoyable seeing this video as I had just watched and listened to Brendan trying to baffle us all with science with his talk of fibre optic cables, mega bytes and so on:-) Best wishes, Alan,

Hi Robbie, I'm only catching up with your videos now. This is a wonderful box and a real testament to your skills. The difference between you and me is that if I was able to make a box like that and 6 finials I'd try to stick all 6 finials on to it. It might look like a porcupine but they'd all be used. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Hi Robbie, Become Beautiful video. If you make the box a bit bigger, you could take as Pen box. The cover looks beautiful as well. The top was so filigree-work, in the small diameter. :-D

As always Robbie, a pleasure to see you work and learn from you, the details you go into are priceless to any level wood turner. How small, narrow, do you think this kind of design can go? I have a few large pieces of walnut (40 mm X 240 mm X 240 mm) but they have too many eyes and a few cracks so I won't be making them into plates or economy bowls (which I love), but I thought maybe to make strips of them (40 mm X 40 mm) and make some long stem (lord of the ring style) pipes, using the walnut for the bowls, do you think this three sided turning work on a small piece like a pipe bowl? Thanks again, and sorry for all the questions, I really value your opinion as much as I love your works.

My moto is.. I TRY ANYTHING ONCE TWICE IF I LIKE IT... put a scrap piece on the lathe and see what becomes.This is where inspiration comes from
@yuvallahav10 жыл бұрын
Well, that is a sound advice, and a rule I follow with just about everything I do in life. Already made a scrap 4cmX4cmX6cm piece of plywood and I'll test it, if I see this design works and end up making some pipes with it, they shell be named "the Robbie" model :) In the case it does not work, they will always be known as the "unrealized Robbie" model...
@yuvallahav10 жыл бұрын
Robbiethewoodturner Well, I tried it, and it would seem that in a small diameter the twist is not as well defined as with your box (and drinking cup), some of it might be that I tested this on a soft plywood blank, it could be better on the hard walnut I was thinking to use, so I'll probably make another try with the real stuff. I was wondering, how did you sand this without loosing the crisp lines of the spiral? mine kind of blended in... I probably used too much force, should have sanded lightly... Thanks again Robbie!!

Hey Robbie! This video is great. I am going to use this to make a shave brush! How deep of a cove could be done on this and still have the three sides look cool?
@Robbiethewoodturner10 жыл бұрын
crazywhitedog78 shaving brush would be nice i would say 3/8 10mm if it not enough you can turn again best to hand sand when finished following the grain

I really liked the video. I have watched it several times. Question is...how do you sand and apply the finish. Next time you have a group of finials to throw away, have a contest for them. So, keep the videos coming. They are great and very informative. Would love to have you demo for our club, but alas way to many miles between us.
