Woodturning a silky smooth finish - how to get it . I've had this piece of maple drying for almost 2 years. It was time to see what was inside. I was quite happy, the grain is beautiful.

The grain in that is beautiful. Love the edge of the bowl, adds some character. Im in Virginia Beach, VA. But I'm from Wisconsin. Navy has me here, but I've been here for 18 years already. So its home now. Moving to NC next year when our house is finished, then I finally get to build my shop and start turning. Lubec, Maine sounds fairly far north, dress warm and keep making beautful things!

Another beautiful bowl. I really love the outer band at the rim. It reminds me of the shape of the bowls my grandmother used in her kitchen. I just don’t see many turning bowls like this. My lathe should arrive early next week. I’m excited about starting this new hobby.

Oh the Zen of sanding! I did high-end stringed instruments finishes for years. Talk about sanding! All by hand, (tuff to spin a guitar like a bowl). Also, during surface prep, before the first coat of nitrocellulose lacquer, the sanding pattern must follow the grain to avoid cross scratching. Necks, sides, back and sound board, including the areas where the neck joins the body, generally 80 to 400 grit. Then spray and sand, spray and sand until you have a glass like, super thin finish. . Definitely requires a high tolerance to repetition.

Very nice bowl and when I was in the Navy, I was stationed there in Kittery, ME. Beautiful state with “very” cold winters! I really enjoyed my time there and the lobster subs were to die for!

I’ve got the easy wood chuck and love it. Also added the larger jaws as well. The speed of change is so fast. Well worth it over removing and replacing 8 screws every time.

I truly enjoy you work Lubec, Maine down here in Round Rock, Texas. As for the foot, most definitely the second one as it just fits better the overall size of the bowl in my opinion. I've been turning for a little shy of 2 years and therefore I have a lot of catching up to become as proficient as you. I try and watch and you are one of my favorites to watch. Never tried the Acks products as of now I make my own. I have less than 200 subscribers and only a handful of videos out but one day I'll have more. Would love to get some feedback from you if you have time. Or from any of your subscribers aswell. Another great project I really enjoy. Take care.

Greetings for Globe, AZ to Lubec, Maine!!! To answer your question about the Easy Wood Chuck, I purchased one about 5 years ago and have never regretted making that purchase. It's a bit on the pricey side, but saves a lot of time changing the chuck jaws, especially changing to the cole jaws.

Peggy I love your work and it turned out beautiful. The second foot is much better than the first, and seems to fit the bowl better. I lived many years just a bit south of Lubec , Maine, but moved south where the winters were a little easier to live with.

Nicely done Peggy!! I'm working on a Wenge bowl right now and the Acks does a fantastic job on it. However I don't think I'll turn Wenge again until I get more experience. From Millington MI to Lubeck Maine....Thanks for sharing.
