I watch wood turning a lot and you're the first female woodturner that I've seen. This is a very good project that you did. I can't believe more females have not done this

Suggest you try Luka tape for epoxy. Sticks better and will stop epoxy from leaking past it.

Very nice! Safety tip... After you mount your bowl to the chuck, power on your lathe for a few seconds, then power it off and re-tighten your chuck.

Have you thought about bowties from Big Island Engraving out of Hawaii?? Much safer for cracked bowls.

Apple does make for a really nice bowl but I never have a lot of success with it. Even making a rough, first turned bowl, and leaving it in my unheated shed still results in cracks. We just have to be happy with nature I guess

I enjoy seeing the different ways that you use epoxy. I recommend that you try Leuko tape where you want to stop the epoxy without any leaks. It sticks to every thing and hold back epoxy.

This unit will not work well in my shop due to the high amount of planning I do. The amount of material removed and the collection bins are way too small, requiring very frequent emptying of the collection bins.

Hi there and thanks so much for sharing your vid. I am a 72yo wood turner. Started out turning pens and have ventured to the "Dark Side" and turn bowls. Currently working on a Brown Mallee Burl which is a challenge. I like watching wood turning vids to grab hold of ideas that can improve my turning. Hadn't seen your method of adding resin to a bowl and will endeavour to try this. Thanks again for sharing and good luck in your endeavours. Kind regards, Dave, Beachmere, Queensland, Australia

I like glue block myself. I like to drill a hole for my depth. Tape on the drill bit for distance. Then hollow out the inside.

Is the bowl safe to eat from after the final polish with acts or is it only intended for decorative purposes?

As a beginner woodturner that was one of the most informative YT vids on this subject that i've come across. The voice-over works so much better than someone speaking at the time.. Concentrate on the work when at the lathe, concentrate the dialog when doing voice-over back at the computer I say. You have another subscriber here Thank you.

Love that you started by addressing the Keyboard Warriors. 😂 I started watching turning videos 4 years ago when i found it cured my insomnia. I got obsessed and have just bought my 1st lathe. This vid is a year old so you may have figured it out since, but i found UV resin is much easier for cracks. It's almost immediate so you can have the crack filled in minutes instead of hours. Nice bowl. I'm still struggling to be honest. A 6x8ft shed and cheap chinese tools, but I'll get there in the end. 🍻

I did various woodworking, including turning, some decades ago. I ran a little handyman business and had a commercial shop with all the tools. Woodworking was a hobby mostly, and very relaxing. Now it's a spectator sport. You are very likeable.

FYI. It looks like you are using drywall screws to hold bowl on lathe . If I am right , that’s a HUGE MISTAKE. Those type of screws are NOT designed to be used like that. You are running the risk of them failing in mid turning. I respectfully suggest you use WOOD SCREWS with a thicker shaft. Good luck.

If you put the purpleheart in the Sun it will turn purple again. They always turn reddish brown when they're finished. It turns purple through oxidation. I've heard acetone can speed it up but I just leave it on the porch for a couple hours and in a few days it gets very purple again.
