@@JackMackWoodturning sure thing, We went up to the high country here in Arizona, about 5000 feet where we were. Nice country up there, very beautiful vistas and all. We needed some down time, been going strong for a while now. So needed to get out in nature, do some rock hunting, and enjoying the cool air up there. In the valley where I am, in the summer. Temps are between 105 and 112 degrees F, rather warm to say the least.

Definitely sounds too hot for me. Rock hunting you say? Tell me more? I have a friend here who visits abandoned mines and collects all manner of crystals. Some of his finds are nothing short of spectacular.
@Alexchachula
@Alexchachula Жыл бұрын
@@JackMackWoodturning there are a lot of abandoned mines here in AZ, but many are not easy to access, some are one private land, of course you do not know until someone tells to leave. These is one of two we can get too that are fun to explore and even investigate too. However, one was a mercury mine, so not a good one for rock hunting. The other one is a really cool place. The main shaft is about 1400 feet deep. They mined copper, so lots of really cool mine tailings there. There are some smaller mine around we visit now and again. We do get some really cool stuff, geodes, fossil s, quartz and sometimes we have found amethyst and dragon eyes (really cool red semi prescious stones, deep red color)

Nice! It has never really appealed to me. I get anxious just looking at the pictures. Squeezing through small gaps in unmapped mines. The guy I know went to explore a mine for the first time on his own and got lost in there for an hour before he found his way out. No thanks! 🤣

Hey Maddy. I haven’t made a jewellery box specifically. I did turn a rather pretty Yew box a few video’s back though which I may list for sale on my website. It is only big enough for earrings/rings and the like though. John in Bonnie Scotland might sort you out though 🤣 If he drinks whisky, eats haggis, wears a kilt and recites Robbie burns poems whilst he turns, I have absolutely no doubt is work is far greater than mine. 💛

I like resin jobs sometimes, but basically, I can't afford the stuff. Tried some Milliput and epoxy adhesive, but that's it. Ha ha! We've got plenty of big wood and I'm looking for a recommendation on a lathe you could put up to 36 inch logs, weird shaped wood, etc. I have some money to spend, but it's retirement money and I'd like to not bust the bank if possible - just in case I figure out 25 years from now that I miscalculated. Would appreciate your and anyone out there's sound advice :)

As a production woodturner I spend more hours at the lathe than anyone would care to imagine, so I am very adept at operating it safely. Furthermore, my band saw is not currently set up to perform the cuts required here. To do so would take me a lot more time than just truing up the log as you saw me do in the video. I hope that helps 😊👍🏻
