I found your page by just browsing around and saw your work. I am not sure if you do this full time or a weekend thing. All I can say is you have brought wood work back into my dreams. Memories of woodwork in school and how much I used to enjoy it. I loved working with maple and satin walnut, mahogany Oak and cedar. It seemed I looked at the wood differently. watching the grain come to life when you added stains. I have been wondering what I would do with myself in my later years and I believe you have opened my eyes again to the fascination of working with wood. Im lucky enough to live on the west coast of Vancouver Island British Columbia Canada. I have many choices of wood to choose from. Love the work you do. I am very much enjoying sitting in front of my fire with a coffee loving the work you do and dreaming of getting back into working with wood.. Cheers

@@RHumphrey I completely agree with this sentiment. I just got back into woodworking after about 25 years away and picked up pen turning about a year ago. Now I'm starting to branch out, and your videos are very well done. I've learned a few things already and I'm really starting to hate my day job that's keeping me out of my garage.

Until I discovered your wood-turning videos, I would not have thought twice about putting an off-cut like that on the fire, having no idea of the bounty that lies beneath bark. Your skill has brought out the sensational beauty of that fluid grain, to amazing effect. A stunning piece, Rod.

Absolutely stunning! Have always loved the smell, feel, warmth and “personality” of wood. I am the weird old lady often seen roaming lumber yards inhaling deeply and touching the wood lovingly! Am recovering from cancer, and of course holed up due to Covid social distancing, and your beautiful work is giving me so much pleasure. Have never done any wood turning, just small projects, but your vids have turned into a spectator sport!! Thank you for sharing with us! Keep on turning, turning, turning!!🎵🎵

Michaelangelo’s “David” was present even before he began to carve. Your initial confidence in the beauty of the wood before you even turned it reminded me of the “David.” The Psalmist says “God knew us even before we were born.” Thank you for letting us see the art present and then come alive! Totally AMAZING character in that piece of wood. There is no doubt that having the EYE to visualize is the least credited skill to any Craftsman. The ability to do the actual skill work obviously gets all the credit but in my opinion what separates the Craftsman from the master artist is the having the EYE and the skill come together in one. Well done sir, well done. 👍😇🙏👏

You could always use some of the shavings to mix with resin (maybe apple green) to make a beautiful blank to turn into a bowl or vase. Fabulous vase! I love how you left that 1 little branch that was starting to shoot off in the live edge! I believe it really pays homage to the tree.

For all of mankind's talents and artistic skills, none can compare to the beauty that is Endemic in God's Creations. The little piece of unassuming wood, sitting in a pile, ready to be burned, A nice man came along and used his talents, to show us what is underneath the bark of this piece of wood. When man pairs his talents with Nature's, is my favorite form of art, and wood turning is among them! Thank you for showing this to us, and your skills are incredible. I think one of the least appreciated artforms is wood turning and it hold a special place in my heart as I learned to turn wood when I was a kid, then, later branched from wood to clay, and I fell in Love with working with clay, Pottery is definitely related to Wood turning, only differing slightly. I love both, and I love watching your work, please keep it up, I would miss these vids!

Very nice and I did not expect apple wood to be so pretty. My experience with apple wood is that it was not overly attractive but it is very hard when dried. For attractive wood I prefer cherry, black walnut and lilac. With lilac if a sap vein could be exposed but not cut out for the inside of a vase and just a sandpaper finish and a lid is made for the vase , you will be able to smell lilacs everytime you lift the lid.
