The result is outstanding. Beautiful color and burl figure. Before the pour you could have glued the cross sticks to the burl to hold them in place. That would have saved fiddling with the burls after the resin pour. Your production is very good. Good narration and camera work. It is a shame that so much of the burl and resin wind up on the shop floor. I think you could have bandsawn the burls into two semicircles to save a lot of the wood. And I think you could have made a scrap wood plug for the center to save quite a bit of the resin. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.

Gorgeous bowl. I am new to woodturning, turned my first mallet just last week. Everyone has said a little bowl is nice to starter project. You made it look so easy with all the steps involved. Going to practice with a little less expensive bowl first 😂 Think the worst part of turning is really knowing what the correct tool is at what stage of the project to use them🤦♀️ Not worst but scary would be better word. I'm kinda new in the turning universe. I've had a couple of Manzanita burls layin around the shop. They are odd shaped and really not good for turning anything except really small decorative urns and the like. After watching your resin mold technique I am fired up to shape the pieces and make a salad bowl. Your work is beautiful and I am using insert tools mainly as I build confidence in the gouges, skews and assorted others. I've been a woodworker all of my life but not much wood turning. I have a cnc metal lathe which I have used to turn intricate parts from Iron Bark but thats another story. Thanks again for your videos

Your bowl turned out beautifully! Thank you for the detailed explanation of the casting. It seems like many turners skip over that part. Would there be any way to use a bowl coring setup to save some of the center? Even if it was small it could be the base / bowl part of a ring holder.

Thank you Jesse. There is no reason why you couldn’t core these provided the coring tool didn’t chip too deeply. Thanks for watching!

Have you considered stabilizing with thinned epoxy in that way they will stick together.
@TheKlondikeCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
I stabilize in a vacuum chamber so it is stabilized all the way through the piece rather than just the surface. Thanks for watching Rob, I appreciate it
@robs.patrick96914 жыл бұрын
I'm familiar with stabilizing, rather than cactus juice use your epoxy thinned 50/50 with acetone.
@TheKlondikeCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
That works as a sealer and doesn’t go as deep as I’d like. The resin I use sticks fine to the wood, it is just the drops or heavy cactus juice residue that can be an issue.

Beautiful! I am impressed how smooth your process is. How do you get the resin chips "flowing" so nice from the work piece? How do you choose the RPM for the resin? Same as on the wood? Thank you...
@TheKlondikeCraftsman2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Bernd! I turn the rpm up very fast as it is better for both resin and wood as long as things are in balance. The negative rake carbide is what makes the chips flow like this. I appreciate you watching!

I usually aim for a wall thickness of about 3/16" on my wood bowls, but most of the epoxy bowls I've seen tend to be around 1/2". Do you have to make the bowl sides thicker due to the incorporation of the resin? That is, is the resin weaker than the wood?
@TheKlondikeCraftsman Жыл бұрын
Hi SJ. The resin is strong, I just turn to a thickness that looks good to me. Thanks for watching

Далее точу заглушку,которую предполагается после заливки убрать И приклеиваю ее к капу или сувели При таком способе экономлю много эпоксидки the vase turned out to be very beautiful! But in my opinion, you don't use epoxy sparingly. instead of 2 kg, it was possible to do 1 kg or even less, I first glue the cap or suvel on the base and drill inside, leaving 1 cm for finishing on the side.Next, I sharpen the plug, which is supposed to be removed after pouring And glue it to the mouthpiece or suveli With this method, I save a lot of epoxy
