A fine glossy finish - very pleasant! BTW: I think turning a bowl (or any hollow workpiece) needs some amount of spatial sense. Did it ever happen you cut trough the wood because you overestimated it's thickness? Or do you frequently measure it?
@JackMackWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
That used to happen when I first started bowl turning. That was 20 years ago . I don’t think I’ve done that in about 18 years now. I don’t measure.. I’ve learnt to truest my judgment. I turn over 4000 bowls per year ( in my day job) .. every now and then il cut a few In half on the bandsaw just to double check how everything is.

@M0UNTAINEER2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is a soft wood. The darkness of the grain is a fungus growth in the wood
@JackMackWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
It’s not soft as all it’s maple so it’s very dense indeed. It’s a broad leaf so it’s classified as a hardwood although the terms hard wood and soft wood have no relevance to the actual density of the timber. For example Yew is classed as a soft wood and is fairly dense and balsa wood is classed as a hard wood and is extremely light weight and soft to the touch.

Nice video. Beautiful bowl. It looked like you used some type of wax, and two different lacquers. What were the names of those products?

Lacquer and Yorkshire Grit 👍🏻👍🏻
