The work with the Holzstar DB 450 lathe is fantastic. I made a small glass without maple wood, I will come back with new projects.

Hi, I found that the temperature of the motor case increases very steeply even when the motor is free running. I found temperatures above 70°C after 25 minutes and above 80°C in 40 minutes. Holzstar wrote me that they repeated the test and found comparable results but that's just "normal". I suppose that the high temperatures decrease a motor life and pose a risk due to hot surface. Have you found issues with this lathe?

Hi Bert, I'm having the same problems, sure, they're normal.The lathe has a small and weak motor.It is not a high-performance professional lathe.It must be used with care, the engine can burn if it is used for a long time at high temperatures.The copper wire in the motor coil withstands up to 105 degrees.I use the lathe in periods of maximum 7-8 minutes and supplement the cooling with a fan.

@@IWT21 Thank you very much for your useful feedback. Seems to me quite weird a tool with such a Solid structure and a weak Motor, more or less like a SUV with a 50 cc Engine. If you like to try woodturning for 10 minutes perhaps there are much cheaper alternatives. Indeed I added a couple of USB fans too and I used to check the temperature with a Digital thermometer. Then I returned the lathe to the distributor.....

@@mariobertolin6036 It is a tool for amateurs, for turning small parts. A professional, automatic lathe also has a more powerful motor. And a more powerful motor can be easily adapted to this small lathe, that's what I will do in the future

@@IWT21 Just for your information I returned the Holzstar lathe to the distributor and I bought an Holzmann lathe D510. I never recorded temperatures above 32 degrees C at the outer Surface of the Motor case. The new lathe has more power and weight, still I can not justify the Holzstar over heating observed even after disconnecting the transmission belt (i. e. The Motor overheats just by itself, without any load applied).
