Hi Phil! This is what I'd call a "nuts & bolts" video. You showed us how you find the middle of a blank, how you sharpen your tools and how you tell if the bowl is deep enough. Then on top of all that info you turned a beauty of a bowl! You must be getting tired of people telling you how wonderful you are!! (LOL!) But I'm going to tell you regardless! You're an inspiration, Sir! Please keep 'em coming! While you continue to put videos out, we'll continue to watch them!

Very nice hollow form and shape. BTW after the sanding sealer if you use the the gold/yellow pad instead of the green it will leave a better finish. Geoff

I've never seen anyone sharpen a bowl gouge with a file! I'm subscribing just for that, bravo
@WolfRidgeWoodworking4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Joseph! I can't remember who I saw do it, but the idea is to use a diamond file in between the grinder. I tend to use the file until I file down to the small bevel left by the grinding wheel. Just extends the life of the gouge. Welcome to the channel! Have a blessed day! - Ed

@WolfRidgeWoodworking Жыл бұрын
Thank you Mike! I used the Cole Jaws to hold it. It's a great way to reverse chuck it, but you have to be mindful of your cuts and keep the lathe speed lower than 600 RPM. I've had a couple of bowls go flying so be careful! - Ed

@szabolcstallosy21907 ай бұрын
I have many questions. What is the type (size) of the bowl gauge you used at 12:53? What is the type of the wood at 13:36? What is the type of the lathe? :) Thank you for your answers in advance!

Beautiful! One question: I have a couple of different swan neck hollowers. I find them unusable because they catch and chatter so much! How do you prevent them from catching? Any tips? Thanks!
@WolfRidgeWoodworking3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That's a great question and wish I had an answer. I struggle with that same thing. I just made some carbide tools out of 1/2" bar stock to help eliminate chatter. They won't be good for hollowing. I've seen others use a hollowing system that is fixed to a point. I wonder if that can help? Please let me know if you come across something that helps. - Ed

Really nice box. Well thought out, I enjoyed the turning process. Some turners are downright boring to watch, but I stuck with you till the end. Does the wax finish still shine like it did when you made the piece, or has it sunk a bit? Oh yeah, what timber is the box body made from? Keep well, regards from Scotland.
@WolfRidgeWoodworking4 жыл бұрын
Thank you John! It is in my office where I get to see it every day. The wax finish has dulled a bit to a beautiful medium luster. The lid is made from Lacewood and the finial African Blackwood. The body is made from a spalted species that I can't remember right now, but it's either Hackberry or Maple. Have a blessed day! - Ed
