You're calling one of your tools "bedan". I couldnt find that word in the dictionary. Maybe there is another expression for it? Thanks from Germany

It’s a mystery to this North americano too.

The Bedan has a trapizoidal shaped shaft and is available from a variety of British tool manufacturers and perhaps others. The one I used was made by Crown tools. The tool is designed to use on spindle side grain. Beginners prefer to use it with wide side up while very experienced users prefer to us it wide side down. My bevel was 50 degrees.

I believe it's a tool that originated in France, which could be used as a small skew/parting tool

My tools don't cut that well. I try to sharpen them. What am I doing wrong?

Find a woodturning club near you I'm sure they would be happy to provide sharpening assistance. Searching for "sharpening woodturning tools" will likely provide videos that would help.

You need to use a jig and a bench grinder to sharpen traditional lathe cutting tools. Wolverine is a good one.
