What a coincidence. I used my one way coring system for only the second time yesterday and I needed some tips. Now I’ve got them. Thank you 🌞

WOW! You got the mother load of magnolia there. Not often people take them down. These prepped blanks look great. They should do well at the shows you take them to. You said 36, but I’m pretty sure you have more than that. Also, it sounds like you’re underpricing your work a bit. The 13” bowls should be closer to $130 +.

Thanks Doug! My father had this tree taken down this past winter. I was fortunate to get my hands on it! I will reassess my pricing! I will just tell them, "Doug said so".

Could you tell me where you got your coring system? I'm fairly new to woodturning and would like to stop wasting the inners of the bowls. I've learned a TON from watching your video's so thank you so much for taking the time to make them.

Thanks Steve! I got my coring system from Amazon. You can get it there or you can buy it straight from One Way. I did buy one knife set from them and the carbide bits. I recommend those for sure. Thanks for watching!

I had a little of it before. The growth rings can look a little grey in the lighter color of the spring wood. Thanks for watching!

Hello Mike, I saw your video while I am in the middle of a process where I am coring some cherry logs. What is the point of cooking the bowl blanks?, I have never seen that before. Cheers, Hans Stay safe and keep turning.

Boiling the wood softens the lignin and allows the bound water to dry better without cracking.

That is a tough question. There are a ton of factors involved. How much time you spend? Have you coated them with a end grain sealant? If so how much money have you invested in sealant? are you processing them beyond being square? What kind of wood is it? What is the market price for that wood? There is no quick answer to that. Make sure you know how much you think you should be getting per hour. I would start at $50/hr and factor in the other issues I mentioned and see where they come out. Most importantly, you have to have a market for them. Thanks for watching!

Mike, is the boiling for bugs or part of the drying process?
