I agree with all the steps you’re taking except the Pentacryl. I was taught in the early days that it gives the wood a green cast. Is that your experience? If not, maybe I should give it a try. Boiling green wood has always given me the results I hoped for, but the Pentacryl may be an added step I need to include.

Hey Doug! No I haven't had that happen using Pentacryl. I have had pretty good luck with it. Mind you, it is expensive stuff, but I figure when amortized through several dozen bowls it will pay out in the end. Thanks for watching!

Thank you Michael! Boiling softens the lignin in the wood and allows the bound water in the cells to escape more freely. You will have better luck against cracking that way. Thanks for watching!
