R Humphrey Rod, we are a military family. My dad fought WWII in the Army and then Army Air Corps as a T. Sgt. He was up for Warrant Officer when he chose to come home in December of 1945. My Father In Law was a 20 year Navy Chief. My husband was up for First Class when he left the SeaBees at the end of his hitch. My Brother In Law was a First Class in the Navy when he was mustered out because of ALS. The military didn’t want me. I could only sing and play the piano. I was a Music Ed and Music Performance Major! So, we salute all military Vets! Thank you!!

at the moment it doesn’t seem to matter what i do my body resets me back to anxious and i have to consciously work to regain some calm, returning to the second half of this video, listening to your words and appreciating your art, keeping the bark and saw cut... and knowing that you are caring for yourself, getting the tools you need to work better... a calm has finally come over me... you wipe the work with denatured alcohol, you sand... the piece is slowly revealed.... this experience is a very positive one for me, watching you create and explain the process. it’s very enjoyable.creation is everything.
@RHumphrey4 жыл бұрын
My friend, I'm very glad my videos are a source of calm for you. To me, that means I'm achieving that same feeling through my woodworking, and it's translating through the video. Thank you so much for telling me so. It's a very harsh world out there, with everyone going through their own set of circumstances... I've learned to remind myself of that, about the person I'm dealing with, talking to, driving behind, helping me at a store, etc... To be called a source of calm is a high compliment, and very much appreciated.

A new video from you is always exciting, but a new lathe *for* you is very, very exciting indeed. You gotta get your sticker on it soon, so I'm sure it's you! :) It's your buddy in Alberta. I've been setting up my home up here and I'm just waiting for spring to get started fixing my garage and setting up my shop back there. I broke my ankle a few weeks back and have spent a lot of time dreaming and planning the projects I want to take on next. I've done a lot of shopping getting some of my basics together, a lathe is going to be a must, so I'm interested in some of the advice and conversations you've had when you were looking for yours. Thanks a ton, I really enjoy watching you create. And I sure love the introduction to channels and showing off other subscribers' work. There's some very inspiring, beautiful work around here. It's great to be around all the amazing folks here. And it goes without saying, but we're fortunate to be here too. Take care, buddy, I'm so happy to drop in every week. - Mark

Hi Mark! Sorry to hear about the ankle! Hope you recover fast and fully. Drop me an email at rhumphrey.woodworking@gmail.com and I'll give you more detailed input, but in a nutshell, get the best lathe you can afford without going in debt. There are loads of great choices out there. Every turner has their own opinion and they're absolutely right about what suits them the best... I appreciate your kind words.

Semper Fi Top,I have recently come across your U-Tube channel and I am delighted that I found it. I was also watching your video on carving the Sgt. Major and noticed what looked like Air Crew wings over the ribbons. I enjoyed 7 years as a CH-53 crew chief and was in several squadrons both in country and Marble Mountain in Danang. I haven't done any wood turning since high school but your work has inspired me to get a new lathe and get back into this hobby. I look forward to your future videos because you are an excellent teacher for this hobby. Thanks so much and enjoy your new lathe. Sincerely ,Roger Bienvenue.
