@@HodgePodgeWoodWorks Hollow forms scare me because I don't have a hollowing system or a steady rest so doing anything "deep" gets freaky quick. Plus the lack of any real "vision" as to what is happening in there scares me. Your trick with the masking tape on the screen and sketching the tool tip was brilliant. But then I'd need a live view camera setup. Oh well, some day, maybe.

Love it ❤, such an unusual form, I've not come across one before. Even as a hollow form turner I'm not sure if I could even attempt to make one like it.
@HodgePodgeWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you could do it! The only tricky part was trying to get the wings to meet the top of the hollow form in an appealing fashion.
@vickiejenkinson24683 жыл бұрын
Robert, when doing the hollow form are you watching the screen? You did an amazing job with this. I thought it was a goner!! Thank you for sharing your creativity with me again. Stay safe, Vickie
@HodgePodgeWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
Yes Vickie, for the majority of the time I'll be watching the screen. At least that's the case when I'm close to where the marker edge is touching the outside of the wood meaning I'm at my final thickness I want.
@vickiejenkinson24683 жыл бұрын
@@HodgePodgeWoodWorks that's gotta be different looking there instead of at where you're turning. I mean, I know you cannot see that with your eyes, but you know what I mean. I suppose it's just something to learn and practice at.

Fantastic. What is the hollowing system you use.?
@HodgePodgeWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
The hollowing system is somewhat of a Frankenstein setup. The main part is a monster lathe hollowing system (they are no longer in business). I use Trent Bosch hollowing tools and a Steve Sinner Laser system that was converted to use a video camera.

Nice job. How long did it take to do that?
@HodgePodgeWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, well I wanted to make sure to get the majority of the outside and hollowing done in the same day so it didnt move too much. I'd say probably 3 to 4 hrs total. But I waited about a week before applying the finish to allow some time for it to dry.
