I have a feeling these people don't get paid anything near what they are worth. What an awesome wood worker.

They sell for 100 dollars US & take 4 days to carve so the highly skilled worker would get a fraction of that . In a western environment he could charge a fortune for bespoke pieces

@@terischannel For some reason, the capital to purchase the skills is more valued that the skills themselves. There is no reason that "capitalism" needs (according to some sort of rulebook) to function that way. It's the "emperor has no clothes" phenomenon and no one dares point it out.

@Bill Planey I 100% agree, situations of slave labor should be banned from the planet, saw a vid like this with like 5 guys making a huge metal bowl.. there is no way the product value could support 5 guys and the time it took. ... But ... this particular situation is not capitalism by definition. And even if it was it is not "capatalisms" fault. it's the people abusing it. Any system can be abused by bad actors. The USA has laws in place to protect the workers. These other countries do not. You can argue about minimum wage/living wage, but thats not capitalism fault either. The government over spends, prints money, and lowers our money's value so fast that the economy cannot keep up, wages are always behind, and that's why things that were 50 cents 30 years ago are 5 dollars now.. companies would go out of business if they tried to raise wages and/or prices to get ahead of the govs over spending. Is it better to have a company that can provide jobs, or no work for people?

@@terischannel We value skills, until we're asked to pay for them. If this guy earned a decent wage by the standard of Western developed nations, he'd have to charge about two grand for one of these, and while a lot of us appreciate the skill that goes into this object, not many of us can afford to pay that much.

I apologize for my manners. I’m asking questions before respecting. My trade is not a wood worker, but it is a passion of mine. I like to push myself to see what I can make with the tools I own. I do not have a lathe, however, so this limits me from turning wood. You have created a beautiful piece of work. I, myself, can call it a piece of wood art. Because to me, it is art. Again, beautiful work you’ve created. Don’t stop making these. I’d love to see some of your other work. Absolutely fantastic.

I have watched many of these vids and the craftsmanship is superb but the main reason we can not do this here anymore is that we have lost the ability to crouch barefooted on the floor to work and use our feet as work clamps. I wonder what the real-time taken to do the job is?

@@dsrwoodturning2022 I was pointing out the obvious differences between how this piece was made and how it would be made by hand here in Australia or another western country. We don't work at floor level or use our feet. Many more tools would be used and some sort of bench. I have seen an automated CNC machine make this exact shape in Aluminium so I would think one could be set up to do it with wood if there was enough call for it. It is the time it takes to make these types of things that make them so expensive here because the charge for our time is so much more.
