Wow, Lisa, what a surprise! You (almost) channeled master wood turner Andy Philip of Yorkshire, England, as you created a beautiful natural edge bowl that could easily have been one of Andy's creations. Until now, I had no idea that you're one of Andy's fans. Well done and absolutely brilliant! 👍❤

Hi Lisa, that sure was a pleasant video. Though I must admit, I didn't see too much after the music started ... love that Leo Kottke kinda stuff ! So, thank you very much. And nice turning too ! Take care. -Mike

Hey Mike! Yeah I don't like putting music in the videos (and I meant to turn the volume down before I published it) but leaving it completely without sound seems worse than the music. Spent all day on the roof doing the wood stove chimney so didn't have time to do much fussing around. Soon though I'll be relegated to the couch and I'll have some time for editing 👍. And other stuff too! 😉

Left one. Labrum in both shoulders in time but the right one only limits my overhand throwing and has been that way for 20 years, so no softball etc. But the left one is torn such that the shoulder dislocates and that's happening more and more frequently so it's time to get it fixed.

@@LisaRamlow I'm with you dear. My right one was a problem for a few decades too (found I could throw a football underhanded and leftie OK) but your leftie ? Ugh ugh. Just remember - meds are to make you feel normal. And the normal times will increase daily.

Thanks Troy! Yes, it's been a wacky summer where I did all manner of things that weren't turning 😫. Surgery is Monday and I have some projects recorded that I can edit and publish while I'm recuperating so the channel will get back to more regular content. I will absolutely do the therapy and give it the required amount of time to heal - don't want to have to do it all over again!

Thank you! We had a bunch of boxelder trees at our old house, but I wasn't turning yet and though (like most non-turning woodworkers) that they were just junk trees that harbored a gazillion boxelder bugs. Now I want all of them! 🤣

Great looking bowl, love the nat edge. Kind of funny I too am finishing up woodworking projects and bowls before upcoming shoulder surgery in a couple of weeks. I go in Nov 9. My surgery is more of a tumor removal than a shoulder fix but it will relive much pain. I wish you well see ya back on your KZbin Chanel soon after.

Hi Lance! Yeah mine is to repair a torn labrum. Actually have that in both shoulders but my right one just limits my overhand throwing motion and has been that way for 2 years. The left one actually randomly dislocates and gets worse every time it happens so it's time to fix it. I go on Nov 13. I'll send you good healing vibes 👍

Great video Lisa - beatiful work! I like your tool rest, do you know if they ship to U.K.? I had a shoulder replacement almost exactly a year ago due to arthritis - recovery has been very much up and down but you won't regret getting it done, it's well worth it!

Hi there! I think Robust is making these tool rests at this point so I'd check their website and see. My surgery is to repair a torn labrum that allows the shoulder to dislocate and it's getting worse so it's time to fix it before I tear the rotator cuff or something

Nice bowl Lisa. Hope your surgery is successful in fixing the problem. In the video you use both Thompson and Hurricane gouges for turning. I’m in the market for another bowl gouge and wonder if the Thompson is really that much better than a Hurricane. The Thompson is nearly double the price if I get a handle to with it. Thoughts? Take care, Stuart
@LisaRamlow
@LisaRamlow Жыл бұрын
Hey Stuart! I love my Thompson and it does hold an edge a bit longer but I use the Hurricane as least as much and am quite happy with it - these are the standard HSS Hurricane gouges not the M2 or M42 Cryo. I added the link to the video description so you can see the set I have. I find the handles to be completely satisfactory on the Hurricanes. I do love the big, heavier Thompson handle but for the money I am really pleased with the Hurricanes.
@STMwoodturning
@STMwoodturning Жыл бұрын
@@LisaRamlow Thanks for the feedback Lisa, I really appreciate it. I have one Hurricane bowl gouge already (3/8"). It's... ok but I don't use it much except when removing tenons. I like the handle fine and prefer wood anyway. I prefer a 5/8" for nearly everything as it can do almost everything a bowl maker needs done IMO. With my new lathe I can do up to 15" bowls over the bed so I'm seriously considering getting a 3/4" just for roughing.

@@LisaRamlow I had what the doctor called a frozen shoulder. I could not raise my right arm up without it hurting. I had the surgery and then the physical therapy. All during the physical therapy I told them my shoulder hurt. The doctor said we may need to do it again. I told her I don’t think so Cletus, so it still hurts 5 years later.
