Really nice, Alan. You reinforced my philosophy that there's basically no such thing as scrap wood. It's just wood that hasn't been used yet. Bill

I seem to generate a lot of "small" wood that hasn't been used yet. :)

Very nice Alan. Thanks for reminding me that cutoffs have a purpose.

The local Woodcraft store has wood by the pound sale from time to time. I scored a nice block of Sapele 3" x 9" x 12". I will be turning a similar item from the 3x9 and a few pens from the off cuts.

Nice use of the offcuts. And a very nice result. Just curious about your hollowing methods. Some ( Richard Raffin and others ) drill a depth hole first. I could be wrong but I don't recall you ever doing that. Is there a reason or is it just the way you learned to do it? Not looking to quibble. You do nice work and get good results. Just looking for other opinions about how to do things.

There are many options. If using a screw chuck you already have one. Then the question is : too deep or too shallow or just right? Alan

Nicely done Alan. Another good method to deal with small pieces of wood. Curious what is the minimum thickness one should use to turn plates? Take care Cheers Harold
@AsWoodTurnsАй бұрын
Ahhh. the thickness question. It depends on utility vs art, skill level, relative weight of the wood. When you look at it before picking it up, are you surprised at how light or how heavy? Alan
