the most amazing thing about traditional Asian building traditions is their respect for natural materials, even or especially when they use 'manmade' materials such as steel and glass as 'natural'. Ultimately there is no more sustainable way for humans to build. Not surprising that such buildings attain the highest praise for beauty. People who view them want to live with them - indefinitely.

Wife’s brothers almost died from carbon monoxide poisoning from crack in floor about 60 years ago. So. Important to have a tight seal on those ondol floors to keep the fumes out. When I visited a Korean home in the winter as a guest I was given the warmest place on the floor to sit. Yes I was in the hot seat. My rear end was smoking!

Beautiful wood work. Those T-joints on top of the first pillars were sexy. You guys showed him marking and cutting that cope against the stone/concrete? But didn't show the end result. What the....? I'm guessing not the tightest? But every joint I saw was terrific. Cool video. I've been a wood Butcher for thirty years now would love to work on one of these.

Now that is craftsmenship!.. useing modern tools to create classic traditional carpentry and masonary work in such fast time, pre cut and then assembly, with wisdom of heating insulation nature and balance with morern insulation solutions, this building, a house is what real trade professionals dream of building, this should last for generations, with regular house keeping.... @@woodwood1 i really like japanese traditional carpentry buildings, trying to mimic something myself in europe, im general builder, from Foundation to keys, but for time sake speciality work i leave to others, im more of brick/block work, frameing, insulation, drywalls etc... Your not doing japanese carpentry but asian carpentry ower all historic and classic traditional is something else, europe and west cant even come close, the buildings are not ment to last, because constant wars and geopolitics.. you are not allowd to have generational roots in your land its sad...

Fell in love with Hanok homes 51 years ago when I served 31 months in the army. If I was not an old man I would not mind living in a Hanok in Korea for awhile. Kimchee is too hot for me except mul kimchee but I love noodles and bulgogi. Chosumnida chingu carpenters. Anyang.

This was AWESOME!! I've never seen how Korean-style home framing was done, and it is VERY similar to Japanese house framing, yet different enough to be a completely separate style and technique... And I've NEVER heard of the Ondol heating system before and was VERY CONFUSED when it was starting to be shown in the video lol I had NO CLUE what was being built and didn't realize it was a heating system until the paper was first burned LOL (I hadn't full read the title lol) It's a pretty ingenious way to heat the home, but I do notice a small problem with the way it is set up... you HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE to add wood to the fire.... which TOTALLY CANCELLS OUT any warming up you gained from being inside..... So you HAVE to GET DRESS to just add another log?? And what about when it's raining??? Man that would SUCK growing up in a house like that... because you KNOW the parents would ALWAYS make the kids the ones to put more wood on the fire!! HAHAA!!! (But I bet the house was ALWAYS NICE 'n' WARM!!!

Зачем делать Традиционные Ondol если делаете теплый водяной пол из пвх труб? Зачем делать Традиционные Ondol, тратя такое количество кирпича и времени, на его постройку? В России строят дома из брёвен, строят 1 печь внутри дома и даже в -45 зимой в этом доме - избе - будет тепло +25. Крыша невероятно красивая.

고생하셨습니다. 전통 한옥은 아니고 퓨전 한옥 같군요. 특히 지붕에 경량 목구조가 짬뽕되어 한옥 지붕의 곡선미가 사라진 게 아쉽습니다. 전에 구들방 지으실 때 말씀드린 것 같은데, 벽체를 경량 목구조 방식으로 insulation을 사용해 단열하는 건 괜찮은데, 지붕을 저렇게 해버리면 한옥 지붕의 아름다운 곡선미가 사라지고 맙니다. 차라리 처음부터 경량 목구조 방식으로 서까래를 만들었다면, 불필요한 경비가 많이 줄었을 것 같네요.

@@woodwood1 구들놓을때 랭가벽돌을 사용하면 불에의해 부서집니다. 현무암 틈에 새침을 시멘트로하는 것 또한 갈라지고 부서져서 나중에 큰 문제가 될 수가 있습니다. 구운벽돌을 사용하시거나 불이 직접 닿는 곳에 내화벽돌을 사용 하시는 것을 추천 드립니다. 황토를 사용해서 새침을 세번 불을 넣고 새침을 하셔야 오래도록 문제없이 사용 할 수가 있습니다. 각각의 구들길들은 굴뚝 개자리까지의 거리가 같게 하셔야 골고루 따뜻합니다. 시근담을 벽과 떨어지게 시공하시고 틈은 내열단열재를 채우시면 열손실을 줄일 수가 있습니다. 벽돌은 구운벽돌을 사용하는데 황토몰탈을 사용하셔야 불에의해 무너지는 것을 막을 수가있습니다. 구들길에는 경사를 두어야 불이 안에서 도는 일이 없을 거구요.
