Lichtenberg figures are branching tree-like patterns that are created by the passage of a high voltage discharge along the surface. I filled some of the figures in with acrylic paint, and finished it with lacquer.

Hi I'm Carl Jacobson from the Woodshoptv, I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together.

Great follow up Carl! the possibilities of what you can do with that seem endless. but I think a pass on that one for me as I don't think I would be safe with it... like absentmindedly scratching my head with a probe lol Cheers for now, Bram.

Nice! If you get a chance check out LC's BBQ, Arthur Bryant's, and Rosedale BBQ. They're all great spots. I was on a BBQ mission when I was in KC for WIA in 2015.

You're right the paint makes it pop. A few lines down the honey on the honey pot might look cool . Take care.

I think so too! Maybe I could do another one like the honey pot, but you have to do it before you put on a finish. Take care, carl

hello Carl, I am just starting out in woodwooking and will be using the lighting unit you have, I will be making keepsake and jewelry boxs. My question is should i make the fractals on the boards before assembly or after, I'm pretty sure there is no way to have the fractal turn around the corners.

Thanks for the follow-up. You should figure out how to acoustically isolate your mic so that it doesn't amplify whenever you hit the table :)

If you think it pops with clearcoat wait until you try resin! on dark woods i prefer to colour mine vivid blues and greens, they seem to compliment the darker woods. when using lighter woods i prefer to leave them burnt with clearcoat or wax, never been happy with coloured resin on lighter stuff. it'll be interesting to see what you come up with.

i just had a thought, if the baking soda and water mix stains the wood anyways could you use that to your advantage and add some sort of wood stain or food colouring in with it??

jp woodwork don't use stain. It's flammable and has a tendency to flare up. I tried staining the board first then burning them.

I would have thought the main reason for two probes was to have some form of control as to where it will start the burn.
