Carl what is you go to chuck. I am in the market for a mini and possibly a oneway strong 2. Your thoughts

I'm pretty new to this. I think this stuff is over my head. I was looking at how to make a jam chuck not even sure exactly what they were. I was hoping for more on the process of making one. Maybe I have enough here to go on. Thank you. And thank you for the emphasis on safety.

Do you still love this tool? Do you have a recommendation for a mid size lathe on the jaws you should have? do you like the big easy jaws? I have never used any

Quality. I found your video while searching for a very similar one I watched two years ago. He also used painter's tape to define the spiral prior to cutting a reference line. He did use a carving gouge, referred to it as an "eight sweep six" or something like that. Anyone have any idea of which video I mean and where I might find it again?

Carl, I've been using the square and round carbide tools and getting a ton of kick back. Also, my lathe is table mounted so I can't really be directly in front of what I'm trying to hollow out. Any advice?

Hey Carl!! I need to first say that your channel is what got me back into turning. It's been about 20 years and I'm 40 but I'm back in the saddle. Anyway, I'm looking for a solid set of traditional turning tools that can also be sharpened. There are so many different manufactures and it's quite confusing. I'll be buying a set of carbide as well but if you can recommend a mid-range set, I'd be forever grateful!

Why do you set the tube in a shallow groove as opposed to fitting it to a longer tenon (double thickness of MDF)?

Hey Carl, I ordered the parting tool recently when I ordered the #1hollower. Mine didn't come with the key to change out the carbide cutter. Do you have to buy the key separate or do you get it with the replacement cutter?

Why does it matter that the jig is set at center height. Why would cutting at the top or bottom of the piece be any different than cutting at center height? Thanks.

I would appreciate someone to answer my question. I’m quite sure that I’ve seem Carl use one of these but am unable to find it. What is the turning tool called that is capable of making repetitive decorative marks on a turning? Thank you very much for your help!

Do hot glued joints last a long time like wood glue or is it just for short term applications like waste blocks? For example, if I use hot glue to join two or three small pieces of contrasting wood for a bottle stopper blank will it stay together indefinitely?

I have made similar spirals but completely connected with a ring around the spiral with no joints and the ring will travel all along by holding the thing in different positions.

My good lathe and good tools are in storage at the moment. I got a smaller lathe out to use and bought a cheap set of harbor freight tools. My point is, where can I find a decent bowl gouge or hollowing system?

Hay Carl. Do you have a video for which chisels to buy for complete beginners? ... like, which ones to buy first off. I'm guessing one of each of the tools featured in this video would be a good start. But also brands. I'm living in New Zealand atm (but I live in Australia too ... just not during this Covid 19 thing). I joined the Woodworkers Guilde here and one of the lads told me about your channel. I grew up building stuff with my Dad (being a woman though I wasn't able to go into the construction industry as a teenager, well ... I thought, back then anyway, hindsight is always 20 20) but never really got into cabinet making or woodturning . Really happy that I found your channel now though. Just gotta get some more tools together! Appreciate your knowledge 😎👍

I found that if I put a two or three foot long handle on a scraper, it doesn't catch as easily. If I turn it into a negative rake and use it as an abrader, it just plain works. I have to get desperate to use a scraper though.
