It's taken me a while to make this video due to the weather just getting too cold to paint. I stated converting the rear of the MGB Project back in September 2020, and now 8 months the weather is far better for painting. Although far from perfect, I'm really pleased with the results of the Sebring conversion. With the twin tail pipe exhaust, rounded off front and rear, it really does lift what was a tired MGB

Great video Steve! Shows there is quite a bit of work involved to get one of these fitted but you made it look easy 🤣 great looking result at the end too, the car reminds me of the ‘67 Targa Florio entrant which didn’t have the Sebring valances but was de-bumpered and green 😄👍

Cheers Mark, I based it on an MGC Sebring I saw on the internet. However I'm not flaring the arches, I like the smooth finish. It's getting there bit by bit 👍

Hi Steve . If you did all that in a day you did very well . I too like the Sebring look . I only noticed the slightly jacked up rear as you drove the M.G. away. I'm sure you won't mind me saying that l will be looking for a slightly better finish on my "e"type ! l can remember back in 1970 we had a demonstration with this amazing new product that would eliminate the need for lead loading and cutting out rust 'fibrefill " Seeing you using it reminded me how old that product is ! ( lt didn't work !) An amusing end to our demo was the salesman dropped the unused remnants into the bin . About 5minutes later flames started erupting from the bin ! Once mixed with the peroxide it can get tremendously hot as it cures. !! So , make sure you dispose of the activated remains very carefully !! Another piece of useles information ? The peroxide was one of the highly unstable fuel component's used in the early rocket technology that the Germans developed in WW 2 for the Messerschmit 163 . If unburnt fuel leaked into the cockpit the poor pilot literally melted ! Oooh...nasty ! 😨 Thanks Steve.

Cheers John, I've been at this for the last 8 months or so, I had to stop working on it due to bad weather, or rain not allowing me to paint or do sanding etc. The car does need a bit of lowering at the back, it's just sat too high since fitting the parabolic springs, its an issue I'm going to address soon 👍

Hi Steve, great conversion. I have seen some rear sebring valences only bolted in to place. Obviously it doesn't give the same smooth finish you have achieved however you don't have to repaint the whole of the rear end and I suppose its horses for courses 😁😁. My mgb gt has stalled a little whilst I rebuild my carport but just completed brake rebuild and fitting a new master clutch and brake cylinder at mo. I'm not a mechanic but done everything so far on my gt. Next on my list is front and rear valances.. So your vids are great inspiration and guidance. Thanks again a good luck and please keep the B and post vids. Paul.

Cheers Paul, originally I was going to do up the car and sell it. And it would have never have gone on KZbin. However the more I do to it, the more I'm falling in love with it. She's a rough old girl, but I know over time I'll get her right. With all the work I've done to my B, she's a keeper now. I really glade to hear my videos are inspiring you, it makes all the time and effort of making them worth while when I receive such nice comments like that. Do hope you cure the clutch master and brake master issues your having on your B, and all the best with converting yours to a Sebring 👍

Hi Steve, great vid, what was the clear spray just after you'd sanded all the back? Some kind of cleaner? How long did it take? Really encouraging that you did this outside (I have no garage).

@stephendenton4811 10 ай бұрын
The spray is a clear coat wax oil so to give a layer of protection to the metal panel that is to be sealed in place. The whole job took me 6 months due to filming it for KZbin. But you could easily do it within 2-3 weeks working evening and weekends at it 👍

Horses for courses, if we all like the same thing then there would be no variety. I love to see all sorts and appreciate what people do with there cars for them. I have many cars myself, and keep some as they left the factory and others modified 👍

That was a great job Steve, just shows what a home mechanic can do. Similar to me painting the rear of my TR6 that was body colour, at least I didn't have to do bodywork on that, but I've had many times where I have over the years, all very satisfying. One question, I'm not familiar with the Sebring conversion, but will you body colour the front or is it supposed to stay yellow? Great video as always 👍
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Gareth, the livery with the yellow nose is just based a MGC GTS Sebring that I liked the look of on the internet. I'm not really sure weather it's accurate in the historic sense. I just saw it on an MGC that had flared wheel arches and of course the MGC bonnet bulge, and thought that would look great simplified and without the flared wheel arches on my MGB 👍

Hi Iain, it might be worth trying water and a cloth and gently rub at it, if that fails then there is Autoglym or Meguiars soft top roof cleaning products. Give them a good read before using them, but I'm sure one of them will do the job nicely 👍

Any cracking at the join since driving the car Steve? Mine is bolted on at present and considering fibreglassing it on.
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately yes, it has developed some cracking lines as the body flexes. The only real permanent solution is to make the rear valance out of metal and weld it to the body. This is how my good friend David Russell-Wilks one is attracted and therefore he doesn't suffer with this issue 👍
@North49191
@North49191 2 жыл бұрын
great job, can the valance just be bolted on without using fiberglass?
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Peter, yes they can be, it just that I like clean lines hence the fiberglass 👍
