Not really. To take on a 'Smarmy' affectation is to act in a generally self-satisfied or smug way. One step below outright 'cocky' or 'arrogant.' For example, the lofty, self-satisfied tone I'd imagine you've chosen to read my words in is a _perfect_ example of smarmy.
