@@coreylemon I used to be a shopkeeper. I remember some mother coming in and saying "The customer is always right" after I refused to serve her. "That may be true" I replied "but _I_ decide who is a customer" The situation was, about an hour before her son came in to buy cigarettes. I "carded" him and he didn't have any proof of age. He was actually quite polite, but he came back with his mother, who got in my face, wagging her finger, _demanding_ that I serve her son. I explained that I asked for his age, but he couldn't provide proof. "Okay!" she said, with a smug, triumphant grin "_I'll have 20 cigarettes". Now, I had Trading Standards pay me a routine visit, about two weeks earlier, in which I was made aware of rules of selling tobacco products, including how I couldn't even set rolling papers or lighters to a minor and if I was to sell cigarettes to an adult, _knowing_ that they were to be passed onto an under 16, that _I_ would be liable (they even told me that they had "mystery customers" sent out to catch out unscrupulous retailers). "Now" I concluded "I didn't serve him because he's underage. I'm not serving _you_ because you're rude"

@a1-user4 жыл бұрын
randomfox Ehhh Jontron has a lot of reasons why people felt a way about him. He also publicly doesn’t believe in race mixing despite the genetic benefits of diversity... not cus of racism! Of course not that... couldn’t be... It’s all just little dick energy coming from him so he’s an easy target I guess.
@latemanparodius51334 жыл бұрын
@@a1-user Genetic benefits like reduced organ donor compatibility. Also, on the lower end it would be a benefit, but on the upper end, it would be a hindrance. Example: if one took a prize-winning dog race greyhound and mixed it with a pug, the offspring likely is not going to be winning any dog races. There are benefits, but there are downsides as well. It's not so binary, like so many things in this world. Hopefully one would get the benefits from each parent, but the flaws are also flying fast and loose.
@a1-user4 жыл бұрын
Lateman Parodius I must not be clear. In a segregated population you get a genetic bottleneck... if there is a particularly deleterious mutation (many requiring 2 copies of the gene to be expressed, “fast and loose” as you’d say), without diversity there is a much higher chance of having children with someone who also has this mutation, and if your population has little migration then future generations have little chance of avoiding these mutations. This effect stacks on and on, further weakening your genome. Biology necessitates diversity at even the simplest levels of life due to Muller’s ratchet. So your argument that deleterious mutations are “fast and loose” only works in a naturally diversified population, because the longer you spend in isolation, the more of a stacking effect of deleterious mutations you see, which cancels out this “fast and loose” characteristic you see in a diversified population. Less healthy copies of a gene in a population naturally leads to the healthy allele dying off... Do you see this or is it still unclear? More and more deleterious mutations outweigh any “benefit” a group may think their race has over various mixed populations. If we breed ourselves based on physical traits with eugenics like dogs, we won’t see the small molecular damage we are doing until it’s too late and you have a population of people suffering from severe genetic disorders like many purebreds, including greyhounds. And these effects are not just physical traits... we see things like increased gut infections from damaged genomes of organisms in dogs’ bodies. More police forces are now avoiding purebreds like German Shepards for similar reasons... also what we call a benefit in humans can be far more subjective than a dog. I care about benefits of the mind, and general organ/body resilience as that is what will evolve us further. If all you care about is looks and doing extreme physical tasks, then that’s okay for what it’s worth but you must understand that humans have far more intangible benefits from genetics than dogs do. We don’t exactly breed dogs for intelligence, art, writing, etc. Humans are good at so many things... why assume that you already know all the best genes possible? Why are you so willing to gamble that you understand all the genes in the human microbiome to the point that you’d practice eugenics responsibly? Of course, this bottleneck effect takes an extreme isolation effort, but that’s my point, and that’s what people like Jontron claim to want. Where do we stop drawing lines of “tribes”? How isolated is too much or too little? How do we deal with people’s biological pressure to pursue healthy genetics in their partners? Thats basically asking people to limit their sexual partners... good luck with that. These are all questions that segregationists can’t answer in good faith, because our science isn’t there yet or segregation straight up contradicts it. I hope you see that people aren’t going to willingly follow arbitrary lines just to save the egos of some racial purists. It’s just an extremely naive and self-centered worldview, showing little consideration for what biology has taught us. I’m not sure if you were supporting it or just trying to prove my point that a diverse population constantly rescues genomes by breeding out deleterious mutations before they can be expressed and propagated.

well, kind of. literally everything you do to, around and for a child shapes who they will become, because it becomes another data point in the web that they use to build their personality. the name you give them will affect them, but not in some "word association" or "mystical force" way, it will just change how people react to your child and will shape their life. for example, i have never had a nickname, because my name is too short to need one, and because of that and most of the people around me also having short names with no nickname (with one notable exception), i don't tend to give or use nicknames for other people. i will use the name you introduced yourself by until you tell me to stop. the type of name only matters if it's relevant to your society. and if you want a more in-depth dive on this, i suggest the song "a boy named sue" by johnny cash.

What's a Josh or a volcel or troomer? Those are new to me
@AuntBibby4 жыл бұрын
Brokenwing777 The Josh is a well-intended but unintentionally-problematic himbo who’s usually an evangelical christian AKA “every christian rockband needs at least two guys named josh”. his mortal enemy is The Coomer because coomers are not remotely as ignorant as joshes, but they have no intention of following the christian bible’s teachings on cooming or anything else. The Volcel is someone who has everything The Incel wants, but is VOLuntarily CELibate because they either 1. have very little carnal passion (desire to coom), or 2. can easily control their carnal passions. they are the mortal enemy of The Kyle, who has a similar amount of bodily wealth, but has so little control over their carnal passions or their passion in general that they must regularly punch thru the drywall of a suburban bedroom wall to soothe themselves, similar to how autistic people “stim” by flapping their hands or playing with fidget toys. The Troomer is a transwoman (sorry transmen and enbies, this stereotype was not designed by those “in the know”) who deigns to possess a libido which matches that of the average cisgender person... their mortal enemy is The Karen, because The Karen can criticize The Troomer’s sexuality as being either not feminine enough OR being *too* feminine without coming across as transphobic OR misogynist, because The Karen has a socially stronger claim to femininity AND because feminism takes social precedence over trans rights.

I've dealt with a male Karen. I made a comment on a forum discussing the current pandemic, putting in my two cents of "Stop panic buying, stop panicking in general, stay safe and stay informed." and then this dude starts going on about "my child could DIE from this!" The worst part about it was the fact that, I wasn't denying any lethality to the young, old, or generally compromised, in fact, the current pandemic could kill me if I caught it due to my asthma, but unlike that dude, I am staying informed and not losing my shit over something I have no control over other than what I do to prepare for the worst and best of the situation.

Pat's talking about Karen's he had to deal with reminded me of one of my own Karen's I had to deal with when I worked retail. She would come in like once or twice a week, rollin in on her rascal, and roll right up to me with the most Karen voice you can think of, and bitched me out about how badly the flowers were being treated, and how she could take care of them better and that I should give her a discount on any of the flowers she thought were mistreated. I, being fairly new to having flowers in my section, just didn't know what the heck she was talking about but I told her I couldn't. Obviously she turned she called me a slur, I owned her verbally with my knowledge of plants, and she got so embarrassed she left the store and everyone clapped. Seriously though she demanded the manager so fast that her frail looking husband just seemed to turn red with embarrassment. After my manager gets there, she gives me this look of "oh, not her again" and just kinda glides this lady through her requests with a discount on like 3 plants. I dealt with that lady way too many times at that store to count, but the worst part is, I had helped this woman several times with finding stuff and making purchases before she turned into Karen .

I said “Sure, just bring the wrong burger and the receipt”. She said ok and hung up. 6 HOURS LATER. She shows up and ask for the new one. I said “Ok can I see the receipt and the wrong burger?” THIS WOMAN SAID “I ate it already” to which I go “Ok you aren’t getting a new burger or a refund”. One manager call (one I wish I could of heard) later she floors it out the lot and leaves screaming profanities. Salt has never tasted so sweet.

Good day, Mr. “Woolie”, I caught my son listening to this clip from your podcast. First off, I demand an apology. When the customer asks a worker to do something, they better do it right. It is within my authority to ask for a manager to resolve an issue with an unruly employee. The customer is always right and a common worker has no place stating otherwise, intentional or not. Second, you must remove this clip and the podcast containing it. You are spreading a misogynistic that is harmful to working class women, and it is not suitable to an impressionable audience, especially in the year if our lord, 2020. Third, I want the details of your producer and any sponsors that you have. They clearly are not aware of your activities and I would like to have a word from them. I look forward to your response. Kind regards, Karen

I'd just like to say that the people who think that calling you a boomer or "Karen" is equivilent to a racial slur or a hate crime, just shows how minor they think it is to actually do those things to people that it must compare to you making a minor slight against them. Now do I think they all actually, truly, believe that? No I don't think they thought it through at all (nor will they ever), but they're identical to the people who think that legitimately and/or think it's justified against other races and groups for some reason or another but that THEY are ABOVE them, or something like that. Also i'd bet money that a number of the people pushing it are the ones who'll say racist shit and then just cry "It's IRONIC/It's JUST A JOKE/But what about XYZ???"

One thing that has happened as well is the distance between a normal retail employee and a manager is smaller than ever pay wise, so unless a karen happens to get the store manager, (literally the only salaried employee in the whole store) chances are the manager you get is literally just your coworker who is there to help you get rid of the person. "ill complain about you to your manager is the funniest bluff, because like 1. no you aren't 2. they won't care

I worked at Toys R Us for years, years, and worked my up to lower level management, specifically day to day running of the front end. I dealt with money, inventory in electronics, ringing people out, phone calls, phone orders, and customer relations, of which, I was quite good at cuz I was willing to give people the benefit of the doubt at the beginning of every confrontation. My one manager said that was a mistake because, and he pointed this out "you still see the good in people. Stop that." When Pat's boss, Lorraine tells that lady to get out, that is a manager who has had every ounce of love for thy fellow man ejected out of her. That talk I had was in 2015. I am now at the point that it has been purged from me. Though, at my new job, the Karen's aren't white soccer moms, but old dudes with their lottery and random people who want a coffee at 9pm, like some sort of war criminal.
