A Streets of Rage movie could work if it is constructed like an operatic ballet: I'm absolutely serious. Every scene of dialogue between characters must serve only to establish that they are Good Guys or Bad Guys in the campiest, most melodramatic fashion, then everything else consists of long meticulously choreographed fight scenes set to dance music. If the focus isn't exclusively on martial arts as a performance art (which it totally can be) and on choreographing it to music, then it won't play.

Honestly the Ghost of Tsushima movie seems like a potential disaster in the making at this point. The choice of director is just so tonally wrong compared to the things we've seen from him. And then there's of course the whole thing about it being set in Japan. At least they hired a part Japanese american guy to write the script (Takashi Doscher), but unless Sony is truly willing to commit to putting money into research & costumes & actually filming in Japan on Japanese historical sets, this movie is just going to feel like a cheap american wapanese knockoff instead of the love letter to Kurosawa (& Japanese cinema) that the game basically was.

@@haski002 You say that but nothing about Doscher says he would actually KNOW more about Japanese culture then the guys who went out and... did tons of research on the subject and already liked the stuff they based the game around that was said love letter to Kurosawa and Japanese cinema in general that was also greatly LIKED by the Japanese. Though the game did have inaccuracies but that was simply because they wanted to emulate more Kurosawa films then being historically accurate and that was pretty obvious. The films Doscher has been apart of also don't really show ANYTHING about him knowing or not knowing about Japanese culture and instead would more show him knowing about American culture though he also did documentaries so at least we know he would probably do research. However, they shouldn't need to do much as Naughty Dog did a bunch and they are supposed to be working with the production team based on the interview Stahelski did. You also admit your just assuming Doscher would know better based on his ethnicity. Which is racist. It's like saying "Yeah he knows kung-fu or is good at math cause he's Asian". Hell, lets actually look at Stahelski and John Wick again. He is a stuntman. His filming of action scenes and angles is really good and work for the Kurasawa style they would want to portray. Pat says he wouldn't work for the tone of the story but reminder, the beginning of John Wick was a slow burn. John's having bullshit after bullshit happen to him and building up the reason for why he goes out on his crusade. This actually works well with Jin's story, you just have to give more scenes of Jin being a bit more contemplative between action scenes which John Wick did. Hell the animal connection will work well to endearing people to Jin like it did in the games like gaining the horse and naming it, going around and following the fox, enjoying the nature of the world in general. The actual plot structure will be pretty easy to make a film though feel like it still be better as a TV show to give more moments but your going to have to cut a bunch of stuff down. Less of the game sides to it and will probably have a few time skips. What you SHOULD be worried about is that producers in Sony fucking things up. Like were not even hearing anything about the games actors being used in the film so they might be getting new actors with more recognizable names to play the characters... EVEN THOUGH THEY ALREADY HAVE THE FUCKING GAME CAST!

I don't really have high expectations for it but a ghost of Tsushima would probably be oka not great but something new to watch, I'm just basing this on the last samurai movie I watched the 47 ronin, keanu fighting a dragon at the end was such a stupid ending but still fun to watch. Twisted metal and streets of rage though idk, I kinda liked the first death race so id be up for it but there's barely anything there outside character endings and if streets of rage does like a warriors/fight club thing it could be ok.

The Pedro Pascal thing I'm not worried about. As long as they aren't completely changing the story, all that means is that Pedro will probably have slightly different mannerisms than Troy's version. Not a big deal.

honestly the halo show being mid was expected, a problem with video game movies and many movies in general is there's no passion along with some games just not having much to work with

It is fucking ridiculous how many adaptations just ignore or disrespect the source material You have Halo You have the Witcher changing a bunch of shit You have The Wheel of Time The TLOU show probably won't be great either You have Taskmaster in Black Widow being a brainwashed nobody You have Ghost of Tsushima You have Resident Evil: BIOHAZARD You have Monsta Hunta You have Uncharted And a bunch of those are already stylized like movies, anyway, there's nothing you can adapt that will be improved by it being a movie You changing something that's already great won't make it better, it'll probably make it way fucking worse "We're fixing the mistakes of the original" my ass

say what you will about Morbius, but Jared Leto regretting every single choice in his life as he was interviewed by Fubuki Shirakami is the true definition of Kino

There's no reason why good stories and art styles shouldn't be adapted well, other than just a lack of respect or understanding. We figured out book>movies, book>games, comic>movies, games>books... basically every combination can work, but yeah hollywood seems really hung up on putting effort into game adaptations.

It Infinity bothers me when I hear directors trying to take a game, with an already amazing story. Knowing normies don't care about videogames so if this show trends it'll be BECAUSE of the games fans. And just say "ya I'd rather stuff my own shitty garbage opinion into how this story should be done cuz I know better I studied a Dutch angle :)" like. These stories/games popped off cause it's good to begin with. Pay some respect to people who are sometimes better than u, even if u think their art is "low brow" compared to u. Because sometimes lowbrow Is better than a pretentious shit show.

Hollywood is always looking down on others i think the only medium it doesn't look down on are Books but they absolutely look down on comics and most TV shows and with video games it is more of a spite since games eclipse movie sales

Wouldn't a Streets of Rage movie basically be The Raid, only horizontal instead of vertical? Although I guess every SoR game has an elevator level too...
