What makes the jump scare good is that when it fakes you out the first time Reggie probably had his guard down for a second thinking they weren't going to do anything. That split second is all they need to hit you that other one that will get you because they psyched you out.

The little mini-cuts within the first thirty seconds have me rolling. "You're not a baby. You're not a baby!" followed immediately by a cut to them talking about what a great place this school would be to send your kids to.

Nah the loud sound is key, its what most easily makes us jump as humans. Hell some jumpscares are effective just because of the sound and the image is secondary. There is such a thing as being excessive though. Its a careful balancing game.

In elementary school I distinctly remember seeing that anyone could ask for the option but I don't remember how it worked in middle or high school, if they wouldn't give you anything if you didn't have the dough.

Woolie! I did a similar thing in school. I wasn't paid money though. You got thr good stuff. I was paid one icee slushy or a brownie, my choice. I and two others were in charge of placing large tin cans into the large outside garbage recepticle. I remember slicing my hand open on a can moving it to garbage. They just threw it on the outside for us in a bin. No bags. I remember bleeding profusily and I went in for help. The lady just wrapped my hand in paper towels and gave me my slushee to enjoy. Went back to class and the teacher didn't even care. That went on for a atleast three weeks. Can't remember. Was many years ago.
