I'm not 100% on the idea, but it kinda makes sense to me. Basically, toy companies make products in batches depending on the expectation of them selling during that season, and they'll invest large amounts of cash into selling that batch and once it's done, they move on to the next one or the new version of the previous toy. While games are closer to movies and books where you can always pick it up in any point in time and appreciate it for what it is.

No, probably not, I doubt their legal team was thinking that far ahead and just got a hate boner for emulation. Nintendo's multiple poor/questionable choices are going to continue to hurt their reputation unless they either fix the issues people have or change the people in charge that have been leading these negative decisions. Nintendo can improve and be better, but it will take either radical change quickly or a slow improvement over time.

@Wakimaki As somebody who likes their games/hates their business, I'll kill for them to sort their crap out and change for the better, but I think the situation with the pandemic and how Nintendo's finances are firmly stuck in the Black, I feel it's unlikely we'll see any real change happening any time soon unfortunately Also I fear they're once again caught in their cycle of getting complicated of their success, act naive of current trends, fumbling by falling behind and finally force to adapt to those trends Rinse and repeat Plus with how much money they've made these last several years and continue to do so, I feel boycotting won't either help either- The only thing I can think of is probably hurt them PR wise? (Possibly the continue pressure on social media and sabotage of their events?)

As someone else pointed it out in this comment section, it's not necessarily the people leading Nintendo, but rather the Laws that pushes them this way. If anything is old and outdated, it would be that, and would need to be changed for things to be not like this. Especially the ones in Japan, considering Nintendo of Japan is the one that calls all the shots in Nintendo as a whole.

Even if every person that said they'd boycott (like I did,) did so, it was almost certain to be little more than a blip in the grand scheme of sales.

There's probably a lot more like you out there who effectively abandoned Nintendo and it mightve hurt them. Who knows? we're not privvy to the financial reports they pass around at meetings. You can't gauge any effect you personally have on a company. You can just decide what type of behavior you're not willing accept and then spend your money accordingly. Hopefully others do the same and then an effect starts to occur. Be the change you want to see in the world, that's all anybody can really do.
