26:50 Woolie is actually touching on a thought I had earlier about how this movie could have been really good. Now, I will say, I barely know much about Comic Morbius, but I loved him from the 90's Spider-man cartoon. That did a really good job of introducing him as a sympathetic villain; a fellow student of Dr Connars, working on gene manipulation who gets gene spliced by accident and genuinely struggles with an uncontrollable need to feed. He then progresses to get more and more control over his encounters with spider-man, leading to my point: There was a subplot where Morbuis & Blade team up to go kill the Vampire Queen (who was like Blade's mother IIRC). If Sony had pulled of getting Disney to let them use Blade, I'd have actually gone to see that movie. Edit: I got excited when Woolie started talking about it and paused literally the second before he said exactly the same thing as me v.v

So... what's really funny here is that Morbius, as a vampire, is actually a really dangerous dude specifically because he's NOT an ACTUAL vampire. Like, *BLADE* fights *ACTUAL* vampires and those guys are maybe only half as deadly as Morbius. Morbius can drink your blood with his fucking hands. He can TOUCH you, and drain you of your blood. He CAN go out in sunlight he just doesnt like it. His transformation into a freaky pale vampire guy is 100% voluntary so he can LOOK like a regular dude whenever he wants to (I mean he still kinda looks like a vampire, but like, in 'mall vampire' sense). The equipment that works specifically for vampires (holy symbols, holy water, etc) doesnt work on him unless it'd probably kill a normal human being (a stake through the heart would kill fucking Captain America, you dont need to be a vampire for that shit to work). He's more like Mr. Hyde from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen than he is a vampire. But. On top of all of that. Morbius is an irredeemable piece of shit. He's just an enormous, self focused deuchebag who beefs with scientists more successful than him, and kidnaps women who reject his creepy advances. The only time that isnt the case is when Blade is after his ass for being *JUST* vampire enough to be worth killing when there's no more pressing vampires to kill. My point is -- Morbius is a fucking terrible, C or D list villain. I have NO idea why you'd make HIM the star of a movie. Like... you could probably make a better movie for Chameleon, and that guy's fucking gimmick is "Face Off, except it's anybody". Scorpion is another guy you could do -- he even could have gone the way the Joker movie went and try to make him an honestly sympathetic character who just loses his damn mind, he's a short, fat, ugly little man with few prospects in life, a wife who's cheating on him, and no way up or out. He's like Pat, if Paige wasnt a decent human being. But... we get Morbius. You can clearly tell they WANTED to make their "Joker" movie, Leto was almost specifically cast so they could try and bank on his experience with the role of Joker to sell the Morbius movie as Marvel's Joker movie... but people forget nobody liked him as the Joker, for the LESS THAN AN HOUR OF SCREEN TIME, ACROSS *3* MOVIES that he played him in. It's just like... I can't even fathom the decision to do Morbius. The LAST vampire movie to hit the big screen was that miserable Dracula movie! That's how long it's been since we got a vampire movie, because Twilight did a good job of killing the interest in that genre before then, and Dracula reminded us why vampire action flicks all suck.
@rikowolfin49842 жыл бұрын
Honestly I was really hoping that Scorpion would be the main villain of Venom 2 before it was announced that it would be directly Carnage, because Venom and Scorpion do have a history in the comics and it would be a great villain to put up against Venom specifically so he isn't just fighting other Symbiotes all the time, while also building up Carnage by having Eddie visit Cletus in prison to try and get more info or into the mindset of another criminal while trying to stop Scorpion or figure out what he's thinking. But of course Carnage did happen and they wasted the best Venom villain possible on the second movie because no one was smart enough to think of any other ideas. Like I don't even know who the Sinister Six would even fight if Sony was lucky enough to have their Marvel movies last long enough to introduce 3 other members into their movies, but with how unoriginal they are I'm betting it would be another Symbiote, another vampire, some guy in a shitty rip off Vulture suit, or some generic made up bullshit with Goons that the team can rag doll with only one main villain that fights other similar team members and never some one like Venom who's CGI would make the fight look awkward because it isn't another Symbiote CGI Model fighting them.

The conspiracy theory is that someone had a sudden change of heart after the first trailer dropped and cut down the film to be less comedic and downplay the spider-man connections. This is why the film was pushed from January to April and most of the first trailer is not in the final release.

20:39 I'll tell you why. Sony having the rights to "Spider-man" means they have the rights to all of his villains, so they "let" Marvel use those villains just like they "let" Marvel use Spider-man; I mean, not exactly as the Spider-man movies are "technically" Sony made Disney just "helps". So Sony can totally just be like "we own this character so they're in the venomverse now." I guess as long as whatever contract they have with Disney for those Spider-man movies doesn't have a clause against it or whatever.

Just because they said he got his "doctorate at 19" during the ceremony doesn't mean he was 19 at that time. I know, I know, it's Morbius, but come on man; such a little thing to get lost over in a movie full of plenty of confusing shit.

17:00 I bet you that was a Tokyo Ghoul reference. In the anime, the Ghouls are basically anime vampires with anime powers and to keep their bloodlust in check, they have a little cafe that rations out human meat, but it also serves coffee to suppress their hunger.

The plight of Morbius is one of the few truly *hilarious* things I’ve ever heard. I had no idea how bad it actually was until one of my friends told me on our way home from a road trip. I was cackling like the Joker (Hamill’s Joker, not you Leto 🖕) for over an hour. The real kicker was that fans gaslit Sony into rereleasing it and it did EVEN WORSE the second time. And it got released on April 1st. You can’t make this shit up. Leto isn’t the Joker, but he is a fucking clown. 🤡

What a great cautionary tale. If you make a movie, you NEED to make it be about something. You cannot put something out with zero purpose and zero meaning. Not because people won't like it, but because people will GIVE it one.

As a Morbius fan in the 90s, I appreciate Woolie being a Blade fan in the 90s, and knowing that the two have history. A Wesley Snipes Cameo would have been great too.

Pat is such a liar, he never changes. He keeps saying Morbius is terrible as if it wasn't the peak of cinema existence. Did he not cry at the wonderful bond and eventual rivalry of Dr. Michael Morbius and Milo Morbius? The sadness everyone in the theater felt because they had to fight on top of the Daily Bugle while shirtless and morbing? Honestly, I was pretty much correct in guessing that Pat would be contrarian about the film. He's not a true Morbhead, and even pretends like "It's Morbin' Time" was never said despite Michael Morbius, the Marvel Legend, saying it when he killed Nurse Sutton and "I'll Morbing all out for you" when Milo killed Martine Bancroft, his love interest.

It's funny what things you don't notice. I was to busy yelling at the screen about different stupid things, I didn't even notice the stuff Pat pointed out.
