constantly seen optimum tech and badseed talking about the wooting so i finally ordered a module a few days ago and hopefully everything goes to plan (arrives at whouse the 28th and i got expid shipping), also seen all the vids on the "competition" on optimums channel and it amazes me even after years nobodies came close to a wooting yet plus makes me feel better supporting the smaller original company :) gonna be on foam for awhile though until kbd ships my holy60, may pick up a tofu in the meantime which also makes me happy i have the option

yeah, also why i really intend to join the founders campaign for the 80he, really love the company and their values, really feels like us as a community are a part in bringing the products to life, just didnt get the 60he since i had a 60% board for about 3 years and grew to really dislike 60% and have since gotten a 75% board and i love it so far, and have been hoping for a product like this to release. This will probably be my endgame!

I got my 60HE+ module not long ago and its really great so far, also that software is so good, many customization options not only esthetically but a bunch of useful features like the fn layers, and the actuation point and rapid trigger customization, also it does sound pretty great especially compared to my previous keyboard lol (steelseries apex pro tkl), night and day difference between steelseries in every single aspects

The gasket mounting method is EXTREMELY similar to what Niz, another contactless keyboard manufacturer, is doing. Only in this case it is a dampening mat, and Niz uses its rubber dome sheet. Cool to see, great update.

Nice update, cool ideas! The friction mounting is interesting and it would be nice if you include the o-ring o maybe just sell it for a little extra. For the case since the layout of the wooting is quite unique I doubt you can find third party, so it would be nice to have something like the alumaze for the 80. Waiting for preorder, definitely my next KB!

The friction fit pad will also function as the o-ring.We'll have all the 3D drawings available on our github, just like all our designs: github.com/WootingKb/wooting-design Not timeline yet, but we'll also make an example case with good inner dimensions that case makers can follow. Cases are often made with interest checks and then produced in low volumes. This should make it a very viable route. We'll in either case also start working on some fun different case ideas, similar to Alumaze. Thanks for the support!

This is exciting news to hear that the 80HE will be gasket mounted! A concern I do have though is that I personally am not a fan of the gaskets being a part of the silicon pad because this means that you *have* to use the silicon for the keyboard to be mounted. It would be nicer if you could have the option to modify the sound by making it an option to use or not use the silicon, options are always nice. The reasoning given for the mounting being a part of the silicon pad is understandable, but I feel there are better ways to support multiple mounting styles without it being tied to the silicon. I also will say that like someone else commented, yes, having no gaskets underneath the spacebar generally does improve the sound and feel.
@Wooting
@Wooting 7 ай бұрын
This is indeed a disadvantage that I also acknowledged when we started this. The plan is to start with 100% silicone between, then start working towards minimizing or an alternative using existing structures. At the time, we needed to enter the gasket arena first and start feeling comfortable, and understand better what is and isn't important. I've come to the conclusion that we might as well create a pad under the PCB to rest the whole thing and use the gasket just for alignment and keeping it in place. You can add bounce by controlling the material under the pcb, functioning as a spring. in either case, more to explore here!

Very informative video. The things that you guys are doing to make this a well thought out and forward thinking keyboard aka "pushing the limits" is awesome to see bts. This is what separates you guys from the the rest that just want a piece of the pie. Hopefully next weeks video talks more about the LED strip. I want to be convinced that its a good thing, because right now I don't. A poll after you guys talk about it would great. See if the community wants it/wants it gone, otherwise please consider making a small batch without it, for us that want that "aesthetically clean" look.

It sounds like this thing is really coming together. The only advice I have at this point it to take a deep look at the Boog 75 and figure out how you can get the sound of the board to a similar level. If this board can thocc out the box it will be a no brainier.

Very nice. The only problem I find with your product is the switch itself. As there is no bottom out sound, it sounds quite chattery due to the top housing. If you could film the top housing and/or create a way for a pole to hit the bottom of the switch a lot more people would buy he switches. Cheers🎉

@Spectrulight
@Spectrulight 7 ай бұрын
Wait what is the difference between tkl and 80%?
@DelScully
@DelScully 7 ай бұрын
@@Spectrulight tkl is a standardized layout, easier to mod with.the 80he is missing a few keys as well, its basically the same amount as a 75% but blown out on the right side for no reason at all other than trying to be unique and make it harder for people to use other mods that arent their own.
@Wooting
@Wooting 7 ай бұрын
@@DelScullythis is not entirely accurate. There are no standard cases for the 75%, and otherwise it’s just a popular case for which others had made mods specifically for. But nothing close to the tray mount 60%. The same for TKL, all the TKL cases out there have different mounting systems, all unique, requiring in most cases a different switch plate. Also the spacing between keys, F13, and daughter board placement, spacing, all differences and variations of them. I.e. You can’t purchase whatever TKL or 75% keyboard and swap it for a different case. Most case makers CNC a case at low quantities, do interest checks, and then group buys. They don’t invest in expensive molds and jigs for larger productions. Therefore case makers have the most flexibility. And what they often do is make a case around a certain PCBA solution on the market and often create a unique plate gasket mount system on top of it to carve their own customers base or create a unique selling point. Therefore, it is more important to have a market that is interesting enough (size and willingness to purchase) for a case maker to spend the time (profit) and make it easy for them to get started and save them cost on iterations needed to figure out all the internals.
@DelScully
@DelScully 7 ай бұрын
@@Wooting there are exploded 75% and non exploded. WIth TONS of mods for the exploded and nearly every company under the moon making a version of it, even companies like razer are hopping on the wagon lol. I have personally built 4 75% layout keyboards, and before that bought an akko, as well as skyloong and modded them. They are all nearly exactly the same minus the usb port on 2. So sure, it is not entirely true, but that layout is becoming standardized like the 60% very swiftly.
@DelScully
@DelScully 7 ай бұрын
@@Wooting and the last remark is what I am say as well. The market for this format of the 80 wont be big enough for most case makers to even consider it unless you guys personally do collabs with them, which I'd be all for personally but it will be a niche of a niche to say the least.

We are trying to. But operationally there are challenges, not all things scale the same. Now we have a new interesting challenge with the 80HE. I did a lot of PCB testing under various conditions. Why did my Wooting 60he pcb lose the solder on the hall sensor on one part of the switch even though it wasn't shocked? I have used three Alu Housings. I was careful when replacing the housing and didn't get shocked anywhere, so why did the solder on the Hall sensor come off? It is difficult to send PCB repairs all the way from Korea, so I sent it to a private repair shop in Korea. So they said the Hall sensor fell off. I don't know if it's durable or not, but it may have happened because I was unlucky. This happened after only 4 months of use. Still, other very cheap PCB solders do not fall off easily. Since it was an overseas purchase anyway, I gave up on the AS service when purchasing it... so I think it is my responsibility to purchase it. So, I don't think there will be any need to buy a Wooting keyboard anymore.
@Wooting
@Wooting 7 ай бұрын
It's best you reach out to customer service, we can help we replacement parts including the PCBA. The reason you can't (easily) solder is because it has a ant-spill coating over the entire PCBA. This coating is not only water proof, it's also heat resistant in the several hundred degrees. You can only scrape off the coating and it's honestly not a great experience. The coating is not applied the USB-C and connectors at the spacebar. You can usually see a slight white "skin" around the USB-C area, this is where the coating ends. This is done to make sure none of the connectors accidentally get coated. It's great for durability, not so great with repair (we realized over time). We didn't have a better alternative until recently. Our new coatings are not as heat resistant and can be removed with a solder pen. @@amshermansen is that an option like the Alumaze in terms of shape and quality? Or just the basic stock shell it ships with?

Could you improve the switches? Lekker switches are insanely difficult to make sound good and have a lot of switch wobble which imo is unacceptable for a £180 keyboard

I hear you and agree this can be better. We're rolling out v2s with tighter tolerances first, 80HE will have them. We will see to have more switch options at checkout from Gateron for example. Meanwhile, we're cooking.
